Hi, I am in the same situation and need to write letter to Etobicoke office for my passport return, can you provide me sample letter and what documents need to be attached with the letter and also what do you mean by envelop to be stamped? Thank you
just write the reasons why do you need your passport back. If you don’t have essential and urgent travels or something, just go from the point that you’re a lawful owner of your passport

On the flip side what doesn’t make sense are people who fled their country , presumably going to Canada for protection, now wanting back a passport that represents the same country they are fleeing from.
I will like to alert that, If you fled your Country, get protected here in Canada, you don't want to ask for your passport back, it is a little sketchy to do so, the system here is created to have you apply for your travel document, which is like a mini Canada passport, so why do you need your passport back if your Country mistreated you?

Apply for a TRAVEL DOCUMENT, it is like a passport, you can use t travel with it everywhere, why do you need your passport back when the Country that gave it to you doesn't value you? unless you are not a real refugee

To use your home passport doesn't mean you are not a real refugee! Don't misinform people. Not everybody fled their home country by its government, so there are so many reason around to flee our countries

You can use your home passport depending of your case itself.

Of course you must not use it to travel back home regardless the situation.

True. Everything is individual. There are several reasons why people want to use or to have their passports. Moreover, @MARIUSA some countries do not accept RTDs. Law doesn't preclude you from getting your passport back. Ofc, person that travels with national passport will be a subject of an examination at a POE so CBSA officer will be sure that person did not travel to home country. You are not allowed to renew your passport, travel back home, contact consulates/embassies etc. Using your ID for essential travels cannot be a reason of cessation. but if anything will happen to the person while outside, Canada will not be able to help you by contacting your Embassy. And refugee cannot contact any organization, because it can put a refugee status under risk. So if person wants to go to Dominicana for a vacation - why not using RTD I totally agree. But for example, you have to go right now to US for business, or family emergency (its very hard to get an appointment to US embassy to get B1/B2. Maybe its even impossible - I didn't check) and you have a US visa in your national passport - law cannot preclude you , but at your own risk.

You are giving incorrect advice. A protected person must NOT use their home country passport to travel no matter their destination or renew their home country passport without risking their status in Canada. Yes you are free to get your home country passport back but it is VERY important that protected person never use the home country passport to travel. At the point of entry CBSA will make sure that a protected person has travelled using a RTD not their home country passport. There are no ways where it is safe for a protected person to travel using their home country passport as their travel document. Although it is legal to continue using your home country passport as a protected person, you would risk losing your protected person status in Canada so it using your home country passport comes with very serious potential consequences.

In general, DO NOT use your home country passport as a protected person under any circumstances until you are a Canadian citizen.

You can’t use your home country passport for any reason without risking your protected person status in Canada. If you can’t travel to a country without an RTD, then you will need to wait until you are a Canadian citizen until you can travel to that country.

No
For example I should sign pover of attorney to let my father sell my property on my behalf. For this reason the embassy ask me my original passport to let me sign agreement. I think who person ask original passport are real refugee because they do not have any plan. In my case all of my money and property remain and I should sign agreement let someone sell my property and send me money. Without original passport you can not do that.

You can use your passport for that purpose. You are essentially trying to let someone dispose of your assets since you can’t return to your home country. You shouldn’t renew your passport but if you have a valid one yes you can use it to sign off power of attorney.

I understand, it can be a little challenging to fix things sometimes, but you will be rewarded your Citizenship in later years, and your CAN passport! sounds promising right? relax and enjoy your freedom within Canada if you can't travel in others Countries at the moment due to unexpected risky factors. May peace be with you :)
