hey there,

i have a question how to fill out this one field at the generic application:
situation is i'm living with my common-law partner ongoing in canada but we'll be doing the sponsorhip "outside" of canada application.

under #10 current country of residence:
i'm holding a visitor status in canada, "from" i put in the most recent day of my entry to canada but i don't know what to put under the "to" section since i'm living here ongoing...
since i cant write anything in the field by hand because it needs to be validated, my idea was to put in the date we're sending the application off and the date we're signing all the forms...thoughts?

thanks for your help,
saskia :)

Interesting question. I was wondering the same thing. I still live at my last address and you can't fill in the spaces with present so what date do you put?

as you are a VISITOR, Canada does expect you to leave at some point. They do not let people in for an "ongoing" visit without an end date. If you have a visa, the end date is the date listed on the visa. If you don't need a visa, then best rule of thumb is your legal status as a visitor is good for 6 mo (unless otherwise stamped by a border agent), so you put THAT date. If you already have an extension, then you put the date listed on your extension. The information listed needs to be as of the date of the application. If you plan to apply for an extension, that is in the future, and you can't predict how long your extension will be allowed for. you need to use your current end date until you are given approval for a future date. In CIC's eyes, your current stay ends as describes above.

most people either print it out and handwrite "present" or they put the date of the application. either seem to be acceptable.

Can you validate the forms and then fill some parts in by hand such as dates?

If you want to 'validate' the form and NOT change anything afterwards, just put the date that you will be signing forms i.e. the "date" of the application.
