I have passed the academic training before. I am planning to re-take the IELTS since mine expired in 2006. Can I take the academic module again instead of GT as I would also be using my results to renew my US visascreen (aside from completing my visa application to Canada) ? please help. It would not make sense for me to sit for both exam categories, right?

Yes Academic shall be accepted for immigration to Canada. General Module is easier on reading and writing part.jepipie said:

Only General Module will be accepted now. It is now clearly mentioned on the CIC website and they might send the application back if its other than General Module for IELTS.

it makes sense for them to accept academic module in place of general training since the former is harder. but, i just wanted to make sure.

Check the link i posted, its says General, Since Listening & Speaking is same in both modules so CIC has mentioned that Reading & Writing should be in General which means the overall test should be General Training not Academic.

Submit only General and sit again for IELTS. I know you must be thinking it is not logical but from CIC's perceptive, they have their points based system evaluation for language ability in English by IELTS test in General module only & Academic being a tough module cannot be compared with the same points being awarded as for general so that is why they have now made it clear.jepipie said:

oh, that clears up everything. I was filed first week of june. so my application is good if i choose academic over gt, right?
