This is something related to GC Key for multiple govt agencies, not just limited to IRCC.. It was for CRA (Revenue agency) as well. All govt agencies uses one single key to let users gain access to multiple govt services.

Yes I am aware, but it could also affect IRCC. You never know how crazy these hackers are..

And how can you protect your account from different methods of hacking? I've had cases like this and I don't know how to protect myself from it at all. Tell me please.
"Hacking" is more social engineering that anything else. They trick you into revealing your login information. Common sense goes a long way for securing your account.

Cracking is a different business but is unlikely that someone would crack the IRCC database, obtaining everybody's username and passwords.

But either way, these are the main ways you can secure your account:
  1. Don't log in into your account using unfamiliar devices. For example at a Cyber cafe.
  2. Always log out your account when you are done using it. (Don't just close the browser)
  3. Set highly specific security questions. Things only you would know (Don't use Security Questions like your birthday or middle name. Those are easy to crack)
  4. Make sure when you open an email from the IRCC, is an actual email from them, using the right domain. (Lot of phishing and fake emails out there)
  5. Same for the website. Make sure the SSL certificate is enabled when you go to the IRCC website. Is your browser tells you the site is unsecure, is probably a fake one.
  6. Don't you ever use the same username and password that you have for your IRCC account for anything else. Those should be unique.
If you follow these, your account should be safe.

Cheers.
