going through the same thing buddy, I have a total of 2 years gap due to health conditions and circumstances.
just write a letter of explanation with your application, and genuinely explain why that gap exists, I called CIC and they told me as long as you stayed with a valid study permit you have done nothing illegal, it is your choice if you decide to study or not, however it might raise eyebrows when you try to extend if you don't have a reason for not attending.
just explain yourself and be hopeful, *censored word* happens to all of us international students here, and some things happen in life without us having a say over them.
