Hi,
I am a Canadian Permanent Residence Visa Holder and a job aspirant as a Project Manager in IT. I have 10 years of total experience of which the last 5 years totally into project management in ITand is PMP certified. I have a couple of questions to be clarified as below,

1. I have a 2 years gap in academic career between my 10+2 and Engineering. Will this pose a problem to qualify for a job.

2. My graduation degree is Chemical Engg (4 years) from an Indian University. Will this pose any problems in finding a job.

3. Is credential assessment of all my qualifications an absolute necessity ?

4. What is the overall job oppurtunity market in Canada for IT Project Managers and which regions offer most of the oppurtunities.

Seniors please help me with the above questions

My non-expert Opinion

1.- It shouldn't. But you will have to show a very good reason for that in an interview.
2.- Not necessary, if your Resume shows our IT experience.
3.- Don';t think so. PMP is an international standard, right?
4.- I'd check the Working In Canada website for that.

Good Luck

Zieglers, thanks for the opinion. They are valuable to a Immigrant from India like me.
In answer to point#2 of my question you have quoted " if your Resume shows our IT experience", but I don't have any working experience in Canada (I hope by 'our' you mean Canadian work experience). My IT experience for the last 10 years is based out of "India" and "USA". Having provided this information, please let me know if you have a revised opinion for the answer to Question#2.

Gaps in Education or in Work History are not uncommon. "Life" happens and at times are plans get changed. As long as you're ready to answer the question when it arises this is the most important part.

I would get your equivalency paper for your undergraduate and any post-graduate degrees - this is important.

The job market is starting to pick up, and traditionally Jan-April is a peak in hiring activities, so start networking now for opportunities to materialize starting in January. As many companies have their fiscal year ends on December 31, they don't have the budget to hire in this current fiscal year, but will have a new budget come January, which often explains the delay in the hiring process.

Hi Canadian Career Coach,

By quoting "I would get your equivalency paper for your undergraduate and any post-graduate degrees" do you mean to get the Credential Asessments to be done for my undergraduation/graduation degree. Please confirm.
