Yes thanks.
I wonder why they always give me sh** at the check-in. Must have to do with the way I book my flights I guess (starting in Frankfurt).

Same here, I always book direct flights from FRA - YVR. Never had issues at the checkin and I've been flying here for over
10 years now...

So I would have the option to do the landing at airport(returning back from India) and not do the landing as soon as I get my Passport back(at a US border). This would be the safest since I am planning to visit in Nov. Havent gotten a passport req yet. I am in Canada. If i do landing and request PR card, I might be stuck with no PR card at time of travel. Do advice. Thx

Correct. Land when you come back and you won't have any problems.

I guess I would take the safer approach and land at the airport upon return.

Thanks Guys.

Yes, that would be your best bet. T.

I would give you more +1's but "Sorry, you can't repeat a karma action without waiting 168 hours."

Come back in 168 hours ;D ;D Just kidding. Glad I could help.

Just to add when I completed landing on rainbow bridge, i was advised that I can only re-enter Canada by road (that too on a non-commercial vehicle) without PR Card. I will not be allowed to re-enter Canada without a PR card unless I've obtained another travel document (single entry Visa). For the record I am fro non Visa Exempt country. So it's OK to visit US and comeback (by road) with just your Passport and COPR.

What's that supposed to mean? ;D Since there's a typo, obviously, I'm not sure if you were
saying that you're from:

- a visa exempt country: Yes, you can go to the US and enter using passport and CPR, or
- a NON-visa exempt country ( and you need a visa to enter Canada ): No, you need to apply for a travel document to re-enter Canada.

Hope this helps,

T.

Really? You can +1 a post again if you wait a week? Heh

Thanks a lot for that iam_Toby, very helpful.
I did my landing on Saturday and will be off to Germany from Sep 16 - Oct 1. So I won't get my PR card in time. I now contacted the visa offices in Vienna and Düsseldorf to see what they say. Where it is best to apply for the travel document and how long the processing times are.
While reading the whole thread here I was thinking that the Frankfurt airport doesn't even have anybody from the airlines checking your passport. It is all self-check-in now, the guys from the customs have a look and that's it.
I will just wait for an answer from Vienna and Düsseldorf and then think about if I want to spend another $50 on the travel document or not.

Thanks again ;-)

Travel documents are required by commercial carriers (planes, trains, buses...). If you are traveling by car from the USA, you can return with the COPR, regardless of your passport (visa-exempt or not).

I had to go back to Europe before receiving my PR card. I read from multiple posts that a PR needs to have his/her PR card or PRTD to be able to board a commercial airline. For this reason I asked someone to send me my PR card by post to Europe. It cost me about 18 CAD. It turned out to be an unnecessary cost.

Today I flew back to Canada, from Amsterdam to Toronto via Keflavik, with WOW Air. For both legs of the flight, I was allowed to board simply with my boarding pass and passport. No one asked for an ETA or a PR card.

Reading this thread, I can't help but wonder if everyone who has flown back to Canada without a PR card still had an active eTA so they are never asked for their PR card when boarding... I just looked up the status of my eTA online and it still says 'Approved' and expiry is not until 2021 o_O I landed 2 months ago and also have my PR card..

My ETA was revoked the same day I landed. I checked just a few hours after the landing, and my ETA was no longer valid. So it's still a bit risky.
