Hi everyone,

Hoping someone will be able to help us here as I'm not sure what to send back to IRCC.
My partner ( Canadian) and I are currently living in The UK and we have filed an application for me to get the permanent residence in Canada.

I have passed the medical exams and biometrics a month ago and we've sent all the forms back in August 2020.

We have now received a letter from IRCC asking us:
- further proof of or relationship and us living together. We have sent photos and a mortgage agreement as well as letters from friends and thought this would be enough bug they would need to see more documents. Any suggestions on what we could send them?
- the other thing they're asking is my partners plan for resettlement into Canada like a job offer. However our plan is to first live with his family while we're looking for a job once we're in canada. Do you have any suggestions on what we could send them? Would a letter from his family be enough? They're saying a proof of sale of our property would be valid.. however we don't don't to sell before getting the approval from them.

Also last but not least the letter says that we should pay for the RPR fee.. does this mean we have a good chance to be approved at this stage?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Did you apply as common-law or married? I’m going to assume common-law as they want further proof of living together. You need to document 12 months continuous cohabitation in a marriage-like relationship, therefore further documentary evidence would include things like joint bank accounts, joint utility bills (in the UK this could also be your council tax bill), separate correspondence but sent to the same address (particular if it’s things like polling cards, p60s, drivers license, pay slips etc.), life insurance documents detailing your partner as the beneficiary, those kind of things. With the bills, compile at least 12 months worth of them so that you can demonstrate that period of cohabitation as a minimum.
My understanding is that unfortunately the letters from friends and family don’t count for much as they’re purely anecdotal; to prove eligibility they’re looking for concrete evidence.
As for proof of intent to return, you’ll want things like evidence of job hunting, quotes from movers to send over your belongings etc. The reason they probably suggest sale of the property is because it’s really solid evidence that they’re uprooting from the UK and breaking ties, that’s the key, but it’s understandable you’d be reluctant to take that step prior to the approval of the PR. The same principal applies with the letters here, it’s not really the solid proof they’re looking for.
The proving intent to return one is a tough one, most people don’t want to take the steps they’re looking for you to take before the application is approved, and people’s struggles with it are well documented here but hopefully that gives you a bit of guidance and an idea of where to start.

Thanks very much for your reply. I meant common-law yes:) We're going to follow this and make sure we send more paperwork that proves that we've been living together ( we've already shared our mortgage paper and bank statements but will send more proofs).
For the settlement I guess we will just be more detailed about our plan and I'm going to start getting quotes and shared properties we've looked into.

For the job hunting I really thought it was far too early as the process/timeline is hard to predict. In our plan we were thinking of 1/getting approved 2/selling the house and start looking for work 3/moving with family to Canada while viewing houses 4/ moving to our home

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions - very much appreciated!
