Funds to Carry

Dear Members,

Needless to point out the utility of this brilliant forum and all your support.

In my PR application I declared that I would be carrying $15000. I am landing single. For a single person, $12164 is required. My questions are:
1. Do I need to carry the amount I mentioned in my PR application or just over the minimum required amount?
2. Do they check my funds against my PR application when I land or just check it against the minimum required amount?

One more important question please:
3. Is there anything one needs to do after getting a CoPR and before landing?

Thanks in advance members.

1. Carry any amount of funds you require. The only regulation is that you must declare if you are carrying more than $10,000 in cash, travelers cheques, drafts etc.

2. They may ask your for POF on landing. You don't necessarily need to have $12,164 in hand. You can show them the same documents that you shared with IRCC about POF. If you're asked for POF at landing, you must be able to convincingly show that you have exclusive access to unencumbered funds to the tune of $ 12,164 in your case.

3. Buy a ticket to your landing destination, get adequate (travel and) health insurance (if your landing province doesn't cover you from Day 1), get updated POF documents in place, get your B4 and B4A forms in place for accompanying goods and goods to follow respectively, print out a local Canadian address to be communicated at landing for delivery of PR card (you can always change this later by sending a CSE), find initial accommodation, search online and register with employment service agencies to assist you with job search... You're moving countries - there is a lot to be done all the time.

All the best!

Dear Asivad,

I would be landing soon in Canada with my husband. I planning to have 5000 CAD with me in cash from the funds I showed as POF and the rest will be in an account in my name in India from which I can take a statement. do you think that would be okay?

Thnaks

Yes. Make sure that the bank statement is as recently dated as possible.

There is great confusion with regards to POF being acceptable in form of native country bank statement

1. Many seniors have pointed out that the BEST POF is cash, International demand draft, travellers cheques

2. Bank statement of native country is acceptable as far as the offical CIC letter (given with COPR) is concerned -- still some seniors have mentioned in forums not to rely on it.

So hopefully people can settle this issue once and for all so it can be settled for good

Anything acceptable to IRCC is acceptable at landing.
