Hi,

I landed in Toronto on August 1. At no point was I asked for Proof of Funds.

The only question asked is if you are carrying cash or cash equvivalent ove CAD 10,000. This is to be declared on a form given to you on the aircraft prior to landing. This is only a formality for AML requireemts and there is no additional step in immigration. In fact even if you do carry more (like I did), you will not be asked to show it or declare how much you have. You answer 'yes' even if you carry CAD 10,000 or 100,000 or 1,000,000.

If in any doubt, about this answer yes anyway. There is nothing wrong and there are no tax or any other implications. The problem is if you answer NO and are found to have more than $10,000. This also means that if you are carrying $9,999 in CAD and have USD in your wallet, or a draft for $5,000, you are over the 10K limit and are required to declare.

Please do carry recent bank statments or other proofs that you still have the settlement funds in case you are asked.

I'd say bring $9,500 in cash; and have the rest in bank draft. Going over the $10,000 foreign currency limit means you need to go through an extra step in immigration.
This is not true. You are required to declare $10000 or more and the reason is to combat money laundering. Not for immigration purpose.

You will be asked about where this money is from, what is it going to be used for, etc. When CBSA people thinks its clean money, they will let you through. All you are getting is a few more questions.

For CIC requirement, a single person need to show 12k, for example. after getting PR VISA if I take 8K in cash at immigration upon landins then

1. How much amount of bank statement should I show them on asking, rest 4K or total 12K?
2. For instance, if my total savings is only 12K, then what to do?

Anyone answer please. Thanks

Dear All,

I would request a clarification on amount of cash that can be carried in person.
There is a CAD 10000 limit beyond which declaration has to be made.
but is that applicable for spouse ane me seperately or singly as a family.

This is for 4 persons on a single declaration card. So if you and your spouse are travelling together, then only one declaration is made for any amount ovr $10,000
