Hi,
I landed in Toronto on August 1. At no point was I asked for Proof of Funds.
The only question asked is if you are carrying cash or cash equvivalent ove CAD 10,000. This is to be declared on a form given to you on the aircraft prior to landing. This is only a formality for AML requireemts and there is no additional step in immigration. In fact even if you do carry more (like I did), you will not be asked to show it or declare how much you have. You answer 'yes' even if you carry CAD 10,000 or 100,000 or 1,000,000.
If in any doubt, about this answer yes anyway. There is nothing wrong and there are no tax or any other implications. The problem is if you answer NO and are found to have more than $10,000. This also means that if you are carrying $9,999 in CAD and have USD in your wallet, or a draft for $5,000, you are over the 10K limit and are required to declare.
Please do carry recent bank statments or other proofs that you still have the settlement funds in case you are asked.
