Hi,
My wife is applying as the primary applicant and i am the secondary applicant. What is the amount of funds that we need to show? I have read somewhere that we need to show funds depending on the size of family. So, do i need to show funds for my entire family even though we are applying for FSW and not Family Class.

Thanks in advance

You need sufficient funds based on the size of the family if you're applying under Federal Skilled Worker. This is waived if you have an arranged offer of employement, otherwise you need to prove funds.

I believe you have to show funds for yourself, your wife and any dependent children. I don't know if you can claim dependents will not be following. If you have other family members that you live with now like parents or in-laws, I don't think they count since you couldn't bring them over on the original FSW visa anyhow. A FSW visa will allow your wife, you and any minor children to immigrate, so you need funds to support them.

If you have a specific situation that is unusual, you may describe it and someone more senior can clarify.

you need to show fund for the two of you. its in the website. if you have kids but they are not going to canada with you then you dont have to provide funds for them. just you and your wife. i think you need more or less 605k in pesos. kami naman four in the family and were all going to dapat meron akong 905k pesos in the bank for at least 6 months. they will be needing bank statements that the money has been there for several months.

I disagree. According to the processing instructions here w w w.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op06-eng.pdf

"In terms of funds required, the number of the applicant’s family members includes both accompanying and non-accompanying dependants."

This reads to me that if your family includes dependents, even if they are not coming, you need to include them in the calculation. There is an exception for a separated spouse and if you lack legal custody of the dependent, but I don't see anything that says you can just say you're not taking the kids and ignore the funds required.

Does anyone know of a contrary instruction?

I am a little confused with the word dependent... does dependent refer to children or do they include parents as well. Seniors please clarify.

"does dependent refer to children or do they include parents as well?"

Those who work and receive salary (therefore it is not a volunteer unpaid job) are providers - husband and/or wife.

Read OP6

page 13
Note: The age of accompanying dependent children is locked in on the date of application, but dependence is not. If a child is under the age of 22 on the date of application but 22 years of age or older when the visa is issued, they may still be included as part of the parent's application as an accompanying dependent, if they are still not married or not in a common-law relationship or, if they are dependent pursuant to R2(b)(ii). A child who is 22 years of age or older and who is considered a dependent child on the date of application by virtue of R2(b)(ii) or (iii), i.e. financially dependent due to full-time study or physical or mental condition, must still meet the requirements of these provisions at the time of visa issuance in order to be included in the parent's application. See OP 2, Processing Members of the Family Class, for more information on who qualifies as a dependent child.

Parents of husband and/or wife, or any adult for that matter, can be dependents too. But, you would need to clearly explain how did it happen that a grown person is not receiving any support from government and has to depend on you.

"Will i need to show some proof of funds once i land in Canada?" - now, you need to show funds BEFORE you land in Canada, if you apply under Federal Skilled Worker, however, you apply under Family Class, it is different.
