i have booked my landing on 8th aug by jet. i have one confusing doubt.
Since iam travelign alone first time without family can i just take 11 k dolar as ready cash and remaining can i show as bank statement and tell them it is for my wife in india and once when she comes she will take it and come.

its very confusing ..somebody kindly give a clear reply.my consultant said fund for one person is enough.

Pls somebody clarify me.

i think i read somewhere on the forum that you have to show the funds for the whole family at the port of entry, no matter you are travelling alone or with family. someone can confirm or make a correction if i am wrong.

As far as i know, bank statements unless for banks of canada are not acceptable. You have to carry a bit of cash, travelers check or bank draft.

dear Attituderocks,

Doesn't matter how many of u are landing, you have to show POF for whole the family. 11K cash is Ok, but if you are carrying more than 10k in cash, you have to inform at the POE. Regarding Bank Statements, there are different opinions... Be on the safer side. If it is possible carry DD/ TC for the remaining amount. That will be wise. Think - you have the money in bank, but just because instead of carrying it in proper way (Bank statements instead of tc/ dd) ... rejection at the POE ????

Think it twice..

Regarding the proof of funds on landing, is it possible to open a Canadian bank account remotely and transfer all funds prior to landing? Then you only have to show a Canadian back account statement?

Or is it not possible to open a Canadian bank account until you are a Canadian resident?

@Cappuccino - try asking HSBC near you, they have HSBC CAD account. may this help you.

That's quite handy to know, since my own bank account, and also the joint bank account I hold with my wife, are HSBC also :)

Thinking that an actual Canadian bank account statement might be the way to go for landing POF, since no need to take money with us and a lot easier to prove the funds are transferrable when they have already been transferred ;p

But one step at a time, still getting the docs together to mail our application at the moment!
