Hi!

I am supposed to start my undergraduate degree this Winter (2014). I have 6 courses to finish before Fall 2014 semester starts. The 6 courses cannot be taken in a one semester because they conflict.

Now I have two terms to finish there courses: Winter semester 2014 and Spring semester 2014.

For my first year which starts with Winter semester, I am planning to take 3 courses in Winter semester, 3 other courses in Spring semester and the normal course load "6 courses" in Fall semester. (all in the same year)

According to CIC, if I take 3 courses in Winter and Spring semester each, will I be considered a full-time student?

I am going to extend my Study permit and apply for a coop work permit too, and apparently being a full-time student is a one common requirement for all extensions and work permits.

Has anyone went through this? Please share your experience.

Thanks!

I have not done this personally...but I think 3 courses in a semester qualifies you as a full time student - however, this can vary with the universities so it is better to check with your university - what they consider full time.
For study permits, as long as you are full time its good......For co-op, are you in a co-op program? If yes then you can apply easily.

One thing i dont understand, you are just going to start your studies in Jan, so why is there a need of extending the study permit? and why not go ahead with the normal course load and enjoy the summer. ;)

The university says I am a full-time student if I take 3 courses, I will be considered full-time according to the university regulations. I am just worried in case CIC has another definition and rules of full-time student.

Well, I need to extend it because I should have started my studies in Fall ,but I deferred it.
And I wanted to enjoy the summer too , but I don't have any choices! I have 6 Engineering One courses to complete to be eligible for Engineering major Term 3 "Fall term 2014"

So I believe your permit is already valid for the next four years - I doubt they will extend the study permit so soon - I mean you have not even started studying...they usually extend it closer to the expiry - at that time you can also show them that you have been studying and so and so courses are remaining...
If you have 4 years to go...dont apply for extension now..its useless..
I am an engineering graduate so If you did not do Fall Term 2013 - you should do 6 winter courses in winter and the courses you missed in Fall 2013 in the Spring 2014 -

Unless you only have a total of 6 courses to complete --- check this in the univ...in UofA we had 6 courses each in fall and winter..

I am not sure about this.. maybe some one else can answer that question
