Does anyone know what the rule is for full time status? I am currently doing 3 classes = 9.0 credits. I have had a class transferred (From my UK degree) so there is already 3.0 credits on my transcript.

My academic adviser is advising me to drop one of my modules because I`m only expected to get a C- in it and I`m on course for an A+ in both my other modules. Which mean`s it would bring my other mark`s down.

As an international student does anyone know whether I can do this?

I'm an international student and got some good no. of credits transferred to one of the unis here in Canada from Pakistan and 9 credits from another Canadian uni to my current uni in Canada. All the intl. students are required to be "full time" meaning at least 9 credit hours each term! (I had 39 cr. hrs.) when I started here in my current uni and I had to take 9 cr. hr. in order to be full time student.

I hope this helps! m sorry if it does not .

hi... I can't find you the source but i remember that CIC does not have a definition for full time. If your school considers you full time student, you are a full time student in eyes of CIC as well.

Each institution identifies the course load required for a student to be considered full-time in a specific program of study.

Note: Final session (term, semester, etc.): If students meet all the eligibility requirements, with the exception of full-time status, but are in their last session, they will still be considered to be eligible for the program. For example, at an institution, students are required to be enrolled in at least four classes to be considered to have full-time status. A student in the last session of the program of study needs to take only two additional classes to receive a Canadian credential from that institution. That student will still be eligible for the work permit under the OCWP. They will, however, still be restricted to working a maximum of 20 hours per week during this period.

Thanks for your replies..

I heard somewhere that you can be part time for one semester a year.

I think I may just have to give CIC a call and ask them.

Thanks again for all your help :)

From past experience, full time status is not defined by CIC.

You will need to check with your school as they're the ones who can tell you how many credits considered full time.

For example, my ex-school in Alberta would define fulltime status as 60% of full course load. A full course load is 5 courses per semester * 60% that's 3 courses per semester.

Hope that helps.

I think after reading whats been said and on the CIC website, I think its going to be up to my university to whether I can keep my full time status. I have heard other people say that the class will go on my transcript as a W and then once its re-taken it will be replaced with my grade.

Thanks
