Thanks sjm that's pretty comprehensive. One more question, what's PSDEC? Also, my letter says that "before your application can be placed in processing, a further determination will be made as to whether or not you are eligible. If your application is not eligible ....". This would mean that Eligibility check isn't done yet. But your steps show that 2nd AOR is issued after the eligibility step.

I did some research by going through various spreadsheets on this forum. Based on that I calculated the following (mostly based on Pre-June 26 cases for London VO):

- Time it takes to receive MR after 2nd AOR is between 3-7 months where average being 5 months
- Time it takes to receive PPR after MR is between 4-6 months where average being 4.5 months

Do you people have a similar timescales?

Are you referring to Pre-June 26 or Post-June 26 applicants? Hope this trending still continues, i'm almost on my 7th month since i received my 2nd AOR.

Sorry for the confusion. I have corrected my post. My research is based mostly on Pre-June 26 cases for London VO.

So in the last 7 months since your 2nd AOR there has been no update even on the e-cas?

Hello Mobyshaikh,

PSDEC is a CAIPS abbreviation which means " PAPER SCREENING DECISION ".

Our background check is done at the CHC stage. It commences the moment our file gets the 1st BFD by the VO. An indicator of which is the e-CAS that shows "In Progress". All docs been checked & our NOC being tallied against the MI, if the VO finds our case 'eligible' for Canadian PR, the file becomes 'Accepted'; and then it goes for standard background checks, viz. Exp, Quals, Adaptability, Qualitative Considerations etc.

In CHC the eligibility check is done based on the documents submitted. In most cased a new file number is given before it is done.

Best of luck.

Wow the more acronyms you throw at me the more confused i get. But I'm kinda getting the picture here. one more question, do we find out about these BFDs? I mean would my e-cas mention when my next BFD will be? Or is BFD internal to CHC?

Also, one feeling I have is that timelines may vary for each person from 2nd AOR onwards. This variation may be based on country of applicant's origin, country of current residence of applicant, university from where applicant has studied, company the applicant works for, etc etc. I don't mean that CHC will be biased but background checks, verifications, etc etc may just be easier for some countries. Is that a fair assumption?

No, the e-cas doesn't mention any BFD.

As a prospective immigrant to Canada, you probably know that you can follow the progress of your application through your CAIPS notes, which several companies can obtain for you for a fee. It's however less well known that you can save the fee, usually ranging from US$30-100, by ordering the notes yourself.

CAIPS, for the uninitiated, stands for Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System, the software used by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Canadian diplomatic missions to track visa applications.

To obtain your CAIPS notes, you do need to know someone living in Canada, either a citizen or a permanent resident, who will be willing to mail the request for you. If you already in Canada, you can however send in the application yourself.

A Canadian citizen living abroad can also send in the application on your behalf, but there is a C$5 fee in this situation.

(Note: An In-Canada applicant can also obtain their FOSS notes using the same procedure as detailed here).

First off, you need to download the application form. You will find this at the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website at this link:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563B.pdf

The form is pretty straightforward, with explanations on what needs to be provided. You will need to fill in your file number (usually starts with a “B”, “V”, “E” or an “S”), the embassy where you applied (e.g. Buffalo or New Delhi), and the address in Canada.

If you do not know your file number, you can indicate this in the form, though there may be a delay in you getting your CAIPS notes.

You need to provide a Consent Letter, authorizing release of the information to the person applying on your behalf, who will also have to write a Formal Request letter asking for the CAIPS notes. A copy of that person's passport or other document proving legal residency in Canada also needs to be attached.

All the papers then need to be mailed to this address:

Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Access to Information and Privacy Coordinator
Narono Building
360 Laurier Avenue West, 10th Floor
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 1L1
Canada

Alternately, you can fax all the papers to CIC at 1-613-957-6517, though some applicants say there have been delays when using this method.

"Woo-ah" as Al Pacino's expresson in Scent of a woman. That is some information you have provided. Thanks a ton for such a comprehensive and valuable information that you have shared. I bet that half of us didnt even know what CAIPS is. I know I didn't.

So I was wondering why CAIPS and why not just check e-cas. I did some research and found out that CAIPS tracks unexplained delays down to missing letters or documents which have been highlighted as soon as the file is obtained. CAIPS tells you what has happened to your application so far, and get an indication of what will happen next with your file, and when.

Damn this is good stuff.

Once again thanks a million sjm!

Hi

First the details

I submitted all my docs on 30th Jan 11. Ielts, funds etc. Following is the timeline

Application received by CIO 26-May-10
PER issued by CIO 4-Oct-10
Docs submitted to VO(New Delhi) on 30-Jan-11
AOR from issued by VO 10-Feb-11

The AOR states to contact the VO directly if no instructions are received after 6 months of submitting the documents(which would be end of this month) and also that the process will take 10 months.

The questions are
1.
ECAS till date has the following status. Should I be worried?
Centralized Intake Office Sydney (CIO-S) - Eligibility Review Complete

2.
I went through this website and worked out average time it took from one status to another and mine seems to be way over the average. I mean the time taken from AOR to the medical request is around 1 month and it has been over 5 for me. Should I work on CAIPS?

I have applied through canam by the way.

The stock of patience is depleting.

Hi smozik,
As of now this is the standard reply you would get from ND VO.
This is in response to your recent email enquiry to the Immigration Section of the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi.

This application was received at our office on May 14, 2010. Since you applied as a Federal Skilled Worker on or after February 27, 2008 and before June 26, 2010 , your application will take two years or more to be processed. This is due to the fact that Canada received over 425,000 applications under this program during this period.
* Unfortunately, it will take longer to process federal skilled worker applications submitted under the first set of instructions (between February 27, 2008 and June 25, 2010) than originally projected.

* During this time, the department received applications for more than 425,000 people, and 144,000 of these have not yet received a decision.

* This number represents more than twice the number of projected admissions under the federal skilled worker program in 2011, so many of these applicants will have to wait two years or more to be processed.

If you wish to withdraw your application, you may be eligible for a refund of your processing fees

We trust that this information will be of assistance.

PM
Immigration Section / Section de l'immigration
Canadian High Commission / Haut-Commissariat du Canada
7/8 Shantipath, Chanakyapuri

Hope this explains well, Its better to be paitent for a while as they r working hard to clear the backlogs.
Best of luck.

HI Sjm
My question is i got my 2nd aor on feb11. is it means that i am clear the level of 67 point calculation(Eligibility check)(according to red text). OR 2nd aor means only acknowledgement of receive document and fees.

Thanks
