I'm in what I'd think is probably a somewhat rare position of qualifying for for the FSW program, and also as a self-employed person, both with valid employment experience, but under different job designations.

Is there a down-side to applying to both, other than the cost? Would it lessen my chances if the CIC saw my name in line for two different programs?

Also, I can't find any good data on how long the self-employed path takes, but it seems that it takes a long time, 3+ years perhaps? The FSW path would probably be a better option from a time-perspective, correct? It seems like the FSW path is very active, and more of a known process. The self-employed path, not as much...

Yes - the processing time for self employment tends to be very long. Given the choise, I would opt for FSW. And yes - you can apply for both at the same time if you wish.

However you might not have as much of a choice as you think. Which NOC do you qualify under for FSW? Several of the popular NOCs (1112, 2174, 2147, etc.) have almost surely reached their caps by now.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm a 2174. I just caught up on the forum how that one is likely capped out at this point, which is disappointing. Fingers crossed that it (or something similar) comes up again next year.

I'll likely start the self-employed process soon to get it in motion. We're not really ready to move anytime soon anyway, so I'll send it off and try very hard to forget about it for a while... :)
