Hi there,

I see several messages from people worrying about traveling while waiting for their PR approval.

Could someone explain why we should be worried about that?

Travelling is one thing. Residing in Canada is another. Both are compatible.

If IRCC asks you whether you’re still residing in Canada during your trip, the answer is still « yes », right?

Thanks!
No. You should be physically present in Canada at the time of replying to the portal email. If you declare that you are outside of Canada, you will be asked to contact IRCC once you are back in Canada. That is why I am curious to know about the timeline given by IRCC to reply to portal email. Surprisingly, there is no timeline for the first portal email.

If this is the case, then this implies that ECOPR is not just issued without a forewarning. You have to get back to Canada on your TRV, reply to the email and then your ECOPR is eventually issued.

I am in a similar situation. Based on my research, your bold statement is true.

Yes, and I believe this is also a recent development. Previously, an ECOPR was issued without any word and the applicant's TRV would automatically be cancelled. If the applicant was outside Canada at the time, they would have to apply for a PRTD to get back to Canada.

I am waiting on my BOWP filled Aug 13th and current permit expiry Nov 27th.
AOR: Sep 2020.
VO Ottawa

Question on BOWP - Can my husband(dependent on me) work on after Nov 27th on implied status given that I have already added him on my BOWP application and also paid fees for him? Want to know that in implied status(post Nov 27th) if only the principal applicant can continue working or dependents can also continue working? FYI - He is already here and have been working on SOWP till now.

Are you sure about that?

I was actually worried because some friends went through this trouble recently: They had to delay their return flight by 10 days because they responded to the portal email (in may...) but still didn't receive their PR card. According to their experience, it is a nightmare to get out of the country and try to come back after something < 2 weeks away if you got approved and didn't receive your PR card yet mainly because the PRTD process takes a while = you have to already be outside the country to apply for it + you have to give away your passport to the canadian ambassy of the country you are in and wait for them to send it back to you. (Took them 15 days to get it back, they were in France)

I really hope to be able to go back home for christmas, so if you re telling me that I can just not reply right away to the portal email and/or just mention to IRCC that I will be away / am away when responding to the potential portal email (and like this keep my current open work permit going), that would be highly re-assuring to hear!

Also experience from another friend who didn't see the portal email because it was in his trash mails (Lucky bast**d, he applied through CEC this year and under 5 months he had his email) it seems okay to respond to it 14 days after receiving it.

BTW, I have NO assurance to get this portal email soon / by the end of the year. It is just a in case scenario
Don't take my word for it. I would call the IRCC and see what they have to say. But as far as I know, you have about a week to reply to the portal email. If you can return within the seven days and then confirm, then I think it won't be an issue. But again, please call IRCC.

But I also don't expect you'll get an update during Christmas. It is probably the "safest" time to go.

Yes he can, I’m in the same situation, if you added him when submitting your bowp app then he will be under implied status too. I know this cause I have an immigration lawyer friend who helped me with this, I will apply to bowp two days before my wp expires (don’t judge me I will get my third payslip that day). I wish I didn’t have to apply to bowp though :(

Hi there,
Just so you know, they are not being really reactive to issuing work permits lately. according to their website, inland WP applications take currently 93 days to be processed.
I applied for my 2nd BOWP mid september and still no news.
And for having been on implied status for 4 months in 2020 (yup took them that long to issue my first bowp at the time already) know that it s not the best status ever : you can t leave the country, it s a nightmare to keep MSP going and same for your other insurances, and your employer can have trouble paying you because your SIN is desactivated during that time + hr get scared and think you re not allowed to work.

No judgement though eh, do what you can! i just want you to be aware of the risks to applying too late :)
Oh no, I've applied for BOWP last Sept. 28th and still no news. My PGWP expires on Dec. 22nd. Hope we receive these permits or PR soon!

yes im aware, luckily my job is comprehensive, and also I don’t have any rush on leaving the country. I have alreadyworked on implied status last year when I applied to pwgp and they replied back after 1 month of my wp expiry date. Thank you though!

ps: i really wish to apply before but finding a skilled job hasn’t been easy. I’ve struggling a lot to find one full time skilled job to sponsor my husbands wp. It’s tougher for us married applicants.

Just curiosity as mentioned above :)

I am so disappointed; my AOR is Sep 19 2020. Visa office: Ottawa. I don’t know our application isn’t touched :( … all of my friends applied in 2021; their applications are finalized. So down
