Hi all,

I got a simple question, please help me find out and post your sources (I tried googling around but no luck!)

My friend is a British citizen intending to apply for the Federal Skilled Worker program. I have two questions:

1) as a UK citizen, speaking english as his first language, does he still need to do IELTS test and submit to CIC?

2) As he graduated for a highly recognized university in UK, does he still need to make it go through WES evaluation? Is WES evaluation required on all non-canadian universities, or are there any other exceptions.

Please help me find answers to the above, with trusted sources if possible.

Thank you all in advance.

I applied when the FSWP program reopened last year. I am also a UK citizen, and I also graduated in the UK.

Both IELTS and Educational Credential Assessment were required (I did TEF as well to make sure I had plenty of spare points)

I don't blame them for wanting these things. Let's face it - there are plenty of people with UK passports whose English isn't all that great, and judging by what we see in the news there are even a few Educational establishments in the UK that have existed solely for immigration purposes.

As for proving my sources, it will be tricky to find a page that says there are "no exceptions", and this will be because there aren't such exceptions. Look at the checklist - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5612E.pdf, if it doesn't say optional, it won't be optional, they'll just return your file. Sorry! :)

I appreciate your help loncan, thanks!

Loncan! You send by courier or Royal Mail? :) and did you have to do a technical test for programming for the 2174? Were you grilled in the interview??

I sent my app by Courier.
There was no technical test.
The interview was OK - and although I was very nervous beforehand the VO is good at putting you at ease. Obviously it is fairly formal as they type some of your answers into the computer!
He did ask some questions but they weren't excessively technical, just enough to determine that I was a programmer - no syntax questions or anything like that. They watch your body language, that kind of thing, so I dare say they do catch the non-genuine folks!
I guess we probably discussed jobs and what was involved for the bulk of the interview, so matching the NOC is evidentially a big focus for them.
