There is a bad news in Phd stream applicants. One of FSW-2014 applicants has received RCMP background check request (fingerprints) 6 months after his medical examinations! It looks that things are getting more tough with CPC-Ottawa rather than getting better! :(
Nothing serious here... I think it's a positive note that there is some movement from Ottawa. I and some of my friends thought we needed to submit RCMP police certificates anyway so submitted it with application.

For 1000th time. CPC-O is responsible only for economic classes' applications.
Ya but officers can be reallocated to processing refugee apps in order to process it faster. We r talking about 25000 PR in 2 months here since the day of submission! Even faster than EE

Can you share with us about the process for getting RCMP police certificate based on fingerprints? How much did it cost and how long did it take?

Processing times and fees I think depends on each province. I'm in Alberta and I think it cost $50 or so. I received them in 35 days or so I remember. One goes to the rcmp office (walk-in) and shows them the Passport and asks for police clearance certificate. You sit and wait for an officer to call you. Your hands need to be washed and without much moisturizer to take fingerprints. The officer also fills out a long form using the drivers license and takes copies of passport. One pays fees and that's it!

I'm not allowed to post links here- why? I see others posting all the time. Anyways google RCMP criminal records and it will pop up.

If you get your fingerprints done through commissionaire office, I think it only takes two weeks. In the past year, CIC did not ask for RCMP cert as they can do it directly with them. This is probably a special case.

I hope that this has been a specific case and they are not gonna lengthen the procedure for all applicants. The strange part is that this applicant has submitted medical exam 6 months ago. Even if this background check has been necessary, why they are asking this after very long time and not right after medical request?!

That's actually possible. CIC did send some staff from national headquarters to strengthen the VOs responsible for processing refugee files, but not at the expense of inland offices. They have an active inventory of case processing agents at jobs.gc.ca, and can hire as many temporary workers as their budget allows.

The most logical explanation is that the applicant has a common name, which is traced to some criminal history during criminal assessment. As a result they need to make sure that the applicant is not related to these acts and running his fingerprint through RCMPs database eliminates this risk. As in many other cases of public policy administration in NPM framework, this could also be part of random quality assessment for training purposes.

Only if you are lucky! Keep an eye on the tracking number. As soon as it is activated, u should receive it in a day or two.
