New caps for Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades Programs, and Canadian Experience ClassOn April 26, 2014,

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will issue a new set of Ministerial Instructions to immigration officers regarding the processing of applications to the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Effective May 1, 2014, the following measures will be in place:

Federal Skilled Worker Program:
Federal Skilled Workers are chosen as permanent residents based on their ability to prosper in Canada. They are assessed according to a selection grid made up of six factors, including language, education, work experience, etc.

Overall cap of 25,000 applications in eligible occupations stream
Cap of 500 applications for PhD eligibility stream
No limit on applicants who have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer
Sub-caps of 1,000 applications for each of the 50 eligible occupations below (their 2011 National Occupational Classification (NOC) code is included in brackets):

  Senior managers - trade, broadcasting and other services, n.e.c. (0015)

I wouldn't worry about it, unless you are morbidly underweight in which case you would have health problems. Since you don't have that, stay strong!

I have 5+ years of experience in telecommunications and currently working as Senior QA engineer.
My NOC will be software engineer and designers.

I have registered for IELTS and date is 19th July 2014.

I would like to know if I apply after July ie. after getting IELTS score, will it be too late?
In meantime I would like to start preparing for documents.

I would like to know step by step process for qualification evaluation. I have masters degree from university in UK and Bachelors degree from university in India.
Are attested copies or both degrees enough for the application? From UK university, it would be easier to get but from India university it is tough.

Your help will be appreciated.

other than IELTS, another time consuming thing to do is get ECA, which can be done from WES.

You will only have to provide evidence of your highest degree, so masters is enough.

Frankly, your NOC is very popular and there is a good chance you might not meet the quota. But there is nothing else you can do besides trying your luck. Who knows when the quota will be filled.

Hi all,

I have a clarification regarding noc code 2232.

I have completed my Mechanical Engineering (B.E) and work as Technical lead(Mechanical) in Aerospace industry.

Could you please clarify whether I can apply under Noc code 2232 although I have Mechanical Engineering degree and not mechanical engineering technology degree as specified in the Employment requirements.

Employment requirements for noc code 2232.

Completion of a two- or three-year college program in mechanical engineering technology is usually required for mechanical engineering technologists.
Completion of a one- or two-year college program in mechanical engineering technology is usually required for mechanical engineering technicians.
Certification in mechanical engineering technology or in a related field is available through provincial associations of engineering/applied science technologists and technicians and may be required for some positions.
A period of supervised work experience, usually two years, is required before certification.
In Quebec, membership in the regulatory body is required to use the title "Professional Technologist."
