DD checking issues!
there are lot of replies about some people claiming they get their dd status within 2 3 days from banks while some said that banks simply refused to tell the status....some said it takes around 20 days or so.
first I want to tell about my case.
in Pakistan there are very few banks who can issue dd for immigrations purposes. those are mainly the foreign banks with exception of couple of local banks. now to get dd directly from any of these banks u must be an account holder in that bank of foreign currency in US dollars or GB Pounds ONLY....not even EURO are accepted to issue DDs!
now if u r one lucky son of a gun who holds a foreign currency account in these banks, then voila! ur DD is made...and it can be tracked very easily through bank.....bank normally replies in 3 4 days....or in Standard Chartered banks u can trace it online through ur account! as simple as it is!
now for rest of the 99 percent of the people.....the process is through money exchangers!.....money exchangers have accounts in almost all banks and in all currencies.....those who are listed and authorized by state bank. now when u approach them, they ask u to pay cash and their fees....they then ask the bank to issue DD for certain amount in favor of Receiver General for Canada and payable in Imperial Bank of Canada (probably Toronto or Ottawa branch). after dd is made it is handed over to the client. now here the problem starts.....as its our headache to check the status of dd....so we simply asks the money exchanger to inquire about our dd......as money exchanger had made DDs for hundreds of other people too.....its gets somewhat messy for bank to trace and reply in 2 3 days!......hence it takes 2 week or 3 weeks to get a reply!
we are living in a digital age.....even bitcoins are now accepted as mode of payment.....why the hell we cant have digital DDs which can be paid and tracked online within seconds? why we have to make paper based dd....why we have to go bank and request this all use less process? if I can sit at home, log in my bank account, request a pay order or check, the next day I m issued it at my home or directly paid to the client!, I can request to receive its digital copy, I can trace it online, gets sms alerts for it, I can know when its being paid and when the client enchased it.......why not this simple step for DDs?
a joke: in 1982 i went to bank to check status of my dd....they said super computer is very fast and u can get reply in 15 days......i was amazed at the speed of super computer!............after 32 years i again went to bank....they said super computer is so fast u can get update in 15 days!...i was again amazed.....that 32 year old SH IT is still kicking!
