Hi Friends,
In the generic application form, I could find dependant Type 1 and Type 2 in the drop down. There is no mention about them in the guidelines. Can anyone tell me what are those categories??

My child is 1.5 yrs old, was thinking if Type A will go? Just wanted to confirm

Thanks
Nitin

Your child is dependent type A. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp
Type A The dependant is under the age of 22 and is single (not married and not in a common-law relationship).

why it is different for both of you??

pls clarify 10 pts or 11 pts???

I am really confused now :( :(

-1 for both :D :D

It depends on :P :P :P . I know, it is a bit counfusing table.

So, let starts with age 18. Can we say, if someone is 17 years 1 day age, he should be considered 18; if yes, I am wrong. If no, the rule is, start of the table denotes birthday.

So, if you have already celebrated 37th birthday, you are 37, else 36.

Yes, it is ambiguous. Another way to write it could be...

<18 : 0 points
>=18 & <36 : 12 points
>=36 & <37 : 11 points
.
..
..
So on

But this could perhaps be worse for some people.

I don't see the ambiguity in this. If you are 36 but less than 37,you are obviously 36 years old...No need for approximation.

So,since you are 36,your score point is 11.

You will get points based on your age on the day when the Centralized Intake Office gets your application.

But that is also considered 37th year of your life. That's where ambiguity creeps in.

It is not considered 37. You are not 37 until your next birth day counting from your 36th birthday,even if you are 1 day less than your next birthday.

thanks Oscar7 and Century and solomonwise
I completed 36 years and now 37th year running..

so as per your calculation, I will get 11 pts..

+1 for all friends who helped me....

thanks buddies :) :) :)

That's right, it's 11. 8)

See under "Factor 4: Age" section: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp

The table clearly says points are on the basis of number of years completed (i.e. "age on the date that we receive your complete application"). No confusion at all! Unless one has completed 37 they are still 36. Even if 1 day short of 37, if that is when the application reached CIO. It still is 36. ;D

One who has already completed 36 years, is definitely into the 37th year. It is just that the 37th year hasn't finished yet. It is considered finished on the day one eats the cake, but it started with the last year's cake.
