I was wondering how would the landing experience would be if immigration officers at port of entry in Canada were as untrained as some of our Indian babus (govt employees) are?

They are not like so called "Indian babus" you are talking about. :)

Would they even know that there is a scheme called FSWP? CBSA officers are aware of all those things.
How many counters one may need to go thru to get PR card? (that is if their computer systems are working) ;D They don't give you PR card right away. It come in mail after 40-60 days from landing dates

PS: No offence meant for anyone, including our babus who are showing up on time in office under this new govt.

If anyone can help me with the contact number to check Application Status?

The number I have is 001-613-944-4000

I dont have the application number as I am yet to receive any communication.

The help desk is not allowed to give out this information and doesn't have access to file status. You should email the visa office instead. There's no point calling.

There's a special CBSA counter for that, don't worry. All they need is COPR for your file to appear on their computer.

When you are a permanent resident, you can live outside of Canada, but must live in Canada for at least two years (cumulatively) in a five-year period. If you live outside of Canada for longer, you may lose your permanent resident status.

To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) out of the four years (1,460 days) preceding your application. Please note that you cannot meet the residence requirements for citizenship without a minimum of two (2) years as a permanent resident.

When calculating your time in Canada:

only the four (4) years preceding the date of your application are taken into account;
each day you lived in Canada before you became a permanent resident counts as half a day;
each day you lived in Canada after you became a permanent resident counts as one day;
time spent serving a sentence for an offence in Canada (e.g. prison, penitentiary, jail, reformatory, conditional sentence, probation and/or parole) cannot be counted toward residence - there are some exceptions to this rule;
absences from Canada may have an impact on your residence. Only a citizenship judge can determine if you meet the residence requirements with fewer than 1,095 days of physical presence.
Sorry to chip in here, but rules have changed earlier this year. CIC website has not been updated it seems.
Here's what you are looking for:
Before:
Residence for three out of four years (1,095 days);
No requirement that resident be physically present;
Time as a non-permanent resident (non-PR) may be counted toward residence for citizenship;
No intent to reside provision
After:
Requires physical presence for four years (1,460 days) out of the six years;
183 days minimum of physical presence per year in four out of six years;
Eliminates use of time spent in Canada as a non-permanent resident (non-PR);
Introduces “intent to reside” provision
Before and After comparision-

Disclaimer: I personally got affected by this change as my time in Canada before PR is not counted anymore.

The amendments will take legal force in 2015, that's why they haven't updated the site yet.

All the while i was in UK i broke my head to explain to GP......... there are other medicines than paracetamol. Paracetamol does not work for hang over...... 4 years in UK, you forgot old ways in India...... how about hang over peg ;D ;D
Yeh, Indian way was very good, utara ;D But problem with that is I like large patiala peg for that if I go that route :D

But yeh, I agree, in my experience too UK GPs tend to assume paracetamol is always first step (and mostly last) towards solving any health problem!
