Once you land, you are a Permanent Resident. Yes, it starts from the day you land, even if you don't have the PR card in hand.....but please keep in mind, for re-entry, you do need the PR card.shobvj said:Thanks very much for the concern and keeping in mind am not gonna travel after child birth... only my spouse will travel... he will find a job... later I we will try for visitor visa for the child and apply sponsorship in future... to simmarize my question is the PR counts from the day we land? are we an permanent resident even though we return in a week time without getting PR card (will get it later) ... so on basis of tat Canadian PR holders can sponsor child? ... kindly advice

Yes you can do that. But it is important to stay in canada for 1095 days (3years) out of 5 years to qualify and remain as permanent resident. As a permanent resident you can sponsor your child but again you can do that only after three years of stay which qualifies you as a Permanent resident. Regardless you have PR card.shobvj said:Thanks very much for the concern and keeping in mind am not gonna travel after child birth... only my spouse will travel... he will find a job... later I we will try for visitor visa for the child and apply sponsorship in future... to simmarize my question is the PR counts from the day we land? are we an permanent resident even though we return in a week time without getting PR card (will get it later) ... so on basis of tat Canadian PR holders can sponsor child? ... kindly advice
