Hi winty, VO won't accept passport with a validity of less than 6 months. When his PPR would be issued they will make this observation and further ask the applicant for a renewed passport. Hence makes sense to trigger it right now and get one.
A new passport should not delay the process.

Hi Everyone,

I need some advise. A friend paid is RPRF fee on 05/02/2015. His passport expires in August, 2015. He was thinking of applying for a new passport before they request the present one. Do you think he should continue with this passport or apply for a new one? Also, would it delay the process if he applies for a new passport based on the stage of his application?

Bud, I find it difficult to believe that North Korea is not part of that list. What would you information source be?
I agree with your concerns but no North Koreans are allowed to leave North Korea. If they make any attempts to leave country, they are either shot or serve some sort of death penalty. So immigration for them is way way way far thing.

Hi m77,

Apart from the single entry visa which you get on the passport, NDVO will also give you a COPR (Confirmation fo permanent residence). You will need this letter at times in Canada untill you get citizenship.
E.g. When you cross borders in your private vehicle, in the absence of your PR Card, you can alternatively use the COPR.
Hope it helps.
Even when you apply for citizenship, you need COPR although you have the PR Card!!

Second that. You also need COPR at the time of applying Old age Security and old age pension.

P.S. Don't scrap your COPR even after you receive Citizenship.

Congrats man!

Mexico Visa Office should be ashamed for their slow processing ... today is the 74 day after PER and these officers are only drinking tequila and not sending my MR.
Im stuck with Mexico office too, Its the 49th day for me, did you get AOR or nothing at all?
According to the S.S the average waiting time from PER to Medicals is 60 days for Mexico Visa Office.

I don't think so, at this very moment it is raining Medical Requests and Passport Requests for Colombians in the Quebec Process (I know it from another forum), It is just a little bit slower than other V.Os. Hang in there bro.

As of Autumn 2013, Canada has introduced mandatory fingerprinting for certain visitors to Canada in order to bring its policies into line with US VISIT, a biometric collection program which applies to the majority of visitors to the US, set up after 9/11. Given that Canada is supposed to bring its own policies into line with the United States' as part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, it is likely that this list will expand. But at the moment, it includes only the below countries:

Afghanistan Colombia Iraq Nigeria Sudan
Albania Congo, DR Jamaica Pakistan South Sudan
Algeria Egypt Jordan Palestine Syria
Bangladesh Eritrea Laos Saudi Arabia Tunisia
Burma (Myanmar) Haiti Lebanon Somalia Vietnam
Cambodia Iran Libya Sri Lanka Yemen
Visitors from these countries will be fingerprinted, regardless of whether you received a visitor visa, a study permit or a work permit.

Because of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, we can expect that this list will get longer in the coming years, so be prepared.

I think it depends on the number of visitors from these countries, those who claim refugee status and those who remain illegal. For example, my country SVG had a great relationship with Canada until October 2012, now we are required to have a visa when visiting. Immigration has found out that criminals were able to change their names and get new passports in order to enter the country, others were making up lies and requesting refugee status in order to stay, also in small Caribbean islands the government can be very corrupted and do anything to get money. It has been found out a couple of people from other countries were able to "buy" passports from my island and others in order to visit countries like Canada where a visa is not necessary.

Just my two cents.
