ECAS indicating "In Process" appeared yesterday - Jan 24th 2015

You need an UCI number, either from a previous application or from calling CIC's call center.

It takes patience to get the UCI number from the Call Center, as most agents won't give the information to you.

1. $21,971 for a family of 4 based on info from the following link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp. It is updated annually, so unless you have well in advance of the amount, remember to check again about March/April.
2. You should stick to the allowances given by the airline you will be taking. Generally, it's recommended to not go over these because the overweight and additional baggage fees are excessive.
3. Check out the first post in the following threads, they are very informative:

4. This will be a personal decision, but it's not recommended to bring large and heavy things, even if shipped. In many instances, this will work out to be more expensive than just selling them in home country and subsequently acquiring similar items in Canada.

Hi! Congrats!!!! And thanks for sharing you experience with us.

Justo some questions, 1) to get the PR Card while abroad, if I use option number one, is it legal to send those official docs by courier, or my cousin (she is already PR, she lives in Canada) should have to travel to bring the PRCard to me?
It's not illegal to courier, but it's not recommended because the Canadian govt can confiscate it if they intercept it being sent externally. Nevertheless, some people have been able to successfully do this. I won't attempt it. What is recommended is to have someone physically bring it with them.
2) when you go back to Canada (you will have now your PR card with you) won't the officer check your passport too and see that you have only been at Canada one week, and starts asking questions about how you got your PR card, or rise a red flag????
Shouldn't, but if they do just tell the truth. It won't be an issue.
3) if you have a year to make your landing (that's what I've understood) why did you choose to make your landing so fast, is it because it is easier to find a job if you already have a SIN or PR card??
I think mikeypm says it best in his post which I have reproduced below (thanks mikey ) and is in line with my reasoning:

I am in Canada on a TWP and at Meds done stage of PR, I would advise it is a lot easier to get work in Canada if you have status so it would be wise if possible to land and get PR card and Sin even if you have to head home and tie up your affairs in your home country.


A lot of people use friends or relatives address to get there PR card, it should not be an issue. For some people it makes sense to land and get the PR card, get Sin and accounts out of the way so when they arrive for good all is arranged.

Dude, I noticed that no one of 30th October by DD has been charged as per the spreadsheet.

I have a query, i sent my application in August, i have recieved my PER. My VO is Ottawa. i came to canada on a student visa. now i have got a job as a Technical Sales Consultant.

please let me know how can i inform CIC about the job.

I have the job offer letter, but it does not list job responsibilities. are JD mandatory on offer letter to inform CIC.

Congratulations !! I am 21 july applicant 4011 NOC, got PER on 18th nov. 2014......still no 2nd line update Why NDVO is so random? Should i raise a CSE?

As I know, last PER in this NOC is for 8th Oct.
There is no progress in this field.

If the cap filled, how many days do they need to respond me? If the cap is filled, application will be returned through regular mail. It may take 2 to 3 months before it reaches you

Do I need to notorize MR receipt and passport bio pages before sending them to NDVO?

One of my friends sent the plain Passport Bio pages copies to NDVO. He was not asked for notarized ones.

Many thanks Dear Friend for such a detailed verion. +1 to you. I have just one question. Since you dont have the PR card, which means when you left canada, your PR card was not swiped. A I understand it is the only way to track entry and exit from canada once you land there as a PR. So now how will you go back again..? Whats the provision of tracking entry and exit on the absence of PR card.

As I understand it, CBSA does not actively track exits from Canada, only entries. However, if they want to, they can gain access to the airline passenger lists to see that a particular person exited, but I don't think this is the norm. Others can correct me if I'm wrong.

You can leave the country without getting the PR card, but to return to Canada, you will have to pick one of three Options: 1) either find a way to get the PR card to you abroad after it arrives at the address in Canada (sending via courier is NOT recommended, though persons have done it successfully), 2) apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp), or 3) travel to the US and then drive across the border in a private vehicle, showing your signed COPR when asked.

I am hoping to go with Option 1 and that the PR Card is delivered to my Canadian address without issue so that a family member can take it to me.

i wanna ask, if i got my UCI number by phone and my ECAS shows alive, does it mean "for sure" i will receive PER not NER?
