Pls as an expectant Ppr applicant, I want recently landed or experienced seniors to advise me on the safest way of carrying proof of funds at point of entry?
1. I heard that bank statements from Nigerian banks are not tenable as pof at point of entry. Is this true or not? At the moment my bank ( GTBank) does not issue travelers check. Endorsed or stamped current bank statements are accepted ad proof of funds. Try to get it the same week that you are travelling so it is current
2. Is it safe to carry cash especially dollars? Yep, no armed robbers at the airports or in the skies. I came with my POF in cash, no story story
3. Will there be serious challenges or roadblocks especially with our nosy customs officers and immigration officers? I declared $10k at Lagos and at Toronto, nobody asked to see it. At Lagos, they will always request for a 'tip'. I only smiled at the guy who asked me and told him, 'next time'. He smiled back and that was it.
4. Do a couple need to declare (here or in canada)the amount that is being carried even if it's more than 10000usd but is being split between the couple. This one is according to what your liver can carry. In order words, you are meant to declare all cash equal to or above $10k on you so that if you are selected for a search, you will be okay in that you declared your cash complete. However, some of us carry more than $10k but declare just $10k to avoid long stories at Lagos airport. Some of our Customs/NDLEA officers can be mischevious and delay you unduly if you declare much cash. I split my cash into two, I held half, my wife held the other half all the way from Lagos to Toronto. There was no issue at all, do as your spirit leads you
I would be glad if anyone can dissect each of these questions as it's causing me a lot of headache of late
Thanks
