Need one more advise. should I even do this? Anything wrong in doing this? I mean transferring money to an account in a country where I have not even landed yet. Is it advisable. Has anybody done this before?

There is no harm in doing that, first thing first it is acceptable POF by CIC at POE.
The difference I have explained earlier, it's your personal call. Be rest assured there is no harm doing this.

Advantages of taking DD:
1. Open the acc in your choice of bank in Canada, which gives you 1 year of free locker, cheque books, demand drafts, 0 balance acc etc...
2. Better exchange rates, with banks you cannot negotiate comparable to other organizations you can bargain and get the better exchange rate when taking DD.
3. No worries land tension free :P

Thank you nkalra. so the immigration officer at the POE accepts the bank statement as POF? do you know if there is any particular requirement for bank statement? I mean does it has to be on bank's letterhead/ stamped etc or a print out will be sufficient?

Yes they do, better to be on Official letter head, if it's a printout least it should have the bank stamp endorsed on it.

Hello Everyone,

we landed on sept 17 and left calgary back to the middle east on oct 6. as we all know its quite difficult at the moment to get a job in calgary because of the fall in oil price. My questions and fears:

are we at risk of loosing our resident if we dont move asap?

how long can we stay away from canada and it becomes a concern?

how often do we need to travel to canada to still be on the right track?

what circumsatnces will lead to refusal to renew the resident permit if need be?

please i need more explanations on this from everyone please.

Hello Mr. Khan,
First of all Congratulations.
Your Dilemma is a very common one. But the decision totally depends on your personal situations.
Firstly, to do a short landing, you should consider a few factors like financial, you will be spending a good sum just to get your PR card, if you don't have a problem with that, that's a Pro. Secondly, you need atleast 1-1.5 month's leave from your company, a temporary place to stay, which will be costly, if you have relatives there, problem solved. There are positive sides of short landing too, you can go there and gauge the job market without loosing your present job, you can get a feel of the country you are moving to. Do a little bit of networking there, start applying for jobs, if you get one which you feel is good, other things are just formalities. But if in two months if you see that the market is weak, which it is right now due to the oil prices, you can always grab your PR card and come back, wait for a suitable market scenario and then take the final decision to move.
But if you directly move there, then you will have to be ready for a few months of struggle. The only good thing is, you will complete your initial struggle and settle down sooner than the short landing. The risk is the uncertain market, if it goes southwards, the struggle will be longer. It all depends on your occupation, family situation, whether your wife has a job back home, and stuff like that. No one can give you a right answer. The only thing you can do is sit with your family and discuss the factors I highlighted, and others, then take a collective decision.
All the best, and do inform the forum what you have finalized... ;D

+1 for this, Bhaumik.

Dears,

I got my COPR stamped this week.
Now I've got 2 questions :

Proof of funds while landing: as I dont want to carry cash or Traveller cheques(methods suggested in CIC), is it fine if I just carry lastest bank statements with required amount and International Debit card. Is it possible to convince imm. Officers with these?

PR card: since I am just planning for a short trip of 7 days I cant present in person to collect my PR card.
So is it fine to provide my lawyer's address(this firm was also my official representative during the whole process) to mail the PR card and I'd ask my lawyers to courier PR cards back to me. Or would CIC mandate to be present in perosn to pick up PR cards

Appreciate your help on this.

Dears ,

can anyone shed some light on my queries....still struggling to find a way out of this maze..
