here is some info on account opening with scotia bank from india.
Its hopeless experience when i spoke to customer care kotak mahindra. they have very poor process knowledge and useless( i am saying this as i spoke to 8 to 10 people over phone with customer care dept and no use). If at all kotak can open acct for scotia then better walk to kotak mahindra office directly and talk to them which may help.
But this is what i decided. Scotia bank have their direct branches in delhi/bangalore/hyderabad/mumbai in india. We can walk to any of this 4 branches with our passport and corp froms as proof of immigration, and they will forward our details directly to scotia branch in canada. But we need to be sure in which branch of canada we want to open the scotia bank account. For example in toronto alone scotia has three to 4 branches and one of the branch is ontario. so we need to specify in which branch we want to open account in canada when u walk in to the scotia offices in india.
Once your acct opening details are sent to canada by their office in india , in 15 days all the acct details will be sent to your email id. also before we land in canada we have an option to transfer funds to scotia bank in canada being in india by wire transfer if we wish to. we will also get a letter from scotia offices in india regarding our funds in scotia bank in canada which we can show as proof of funds at port of entry.
But very important point to remember is once acct is opened , you can only do one rtgs transfer to scotia acct from india. So make sure you decide how much amount you want to put in your scotia account as you can do only once before you move to canada from india. and also acct opening process will take between 15 to 20 days so plan accordingly considering your travel plan.
Once you land in canada you can directly walk to your scotia bank branch in which you opened account, show your identity proofs and collect your debt card and credit card also if you applied for while acct opening. (sat/sunday is holiday for scotia bank in both india and canada)
