Dear Friends,

I sent my application on 22 May which was received by 27 May. My CC was charged on 1 Aug. But I have not received any notification from CIC yet. Checking the tracking sheet maintained by users I figured out that the PER email shall be received within 2 weeks after the fee payment. There were some minor cases which reported more than 3 weeks though.

I would be grateful if someone could advise on the following questions:
1. Do I need to send an email to CIC and request for an update?
2. What is the correct email address for future correspondences?
3. How could I place my name on the FSWP tracking sheet?

I hope cic is as sane as you expect. And yes I got UCI when I called cic. But when checked on IVR it gives me the filing date of my previous application and no information about my current application. I am not sure how they link two applications to the same UCI. They should give UCI to each application I guess. Lets hope for the best.

UCI is a unique number i.e., Unique Client Identifier. All the visa applications, be it student, tourist or FSW will be linked to your unique UCI. So without any doubt UCI will be same even for this application once they open and process it.

It is purely at CIC's discretion how they will handle the case. I believe they will update details from your current application and a person can have more than one application processed, there is no restriction to that. I'm sure there will be no rejection on the basis of having two apps files at different times. Just that one will supersede another.

For questions 1/2.
There are two ways.
1st One:
You can email at cio-sydney-search-enquiry@cic.gc.ca to get the status of your application. You will have to send them your Last name, First name, Date of Birth, Country of Birth in order to get the notification. You will receive a reply by email within 20 working days.

2nd one:
To know the status of your application by calling cic from outside canada
dial - 0016139444000
select 1 for English
then 1 for foreign affair
2 for immigration
call is being transferred to cic
then 1 for English
2 for status
1 for PR
8 digit client id number will be asked
listen the request 3 times without entering client id number
then the call is automatically transferred to an agent
agent will ask information about last name, first name, date of birth, application received date, email id etc
Please visit Client Application Status page on cic website. Select Client ID Number from drop down. Enter your UCI #, your Last Name or Family Name, date of Birth, Country of Birth and press Login. And if your details are entered by cic in ther ecas system, you can find your details.
For question 3.
Add following information in green and one of the admins will add you in spreadsheet.

Tell the agent that your file is with CIC nova scotia for more than 10 weeks and they have charged your payment and you are calling from outside canada and want to know you CLIENT ID Number

When they understand its 10 weeks your application with them they will start cooperating with you and ask below information to find your UCI: meanwhile write an email to CIC so if they suggest you to email then you can say you already did and only want your UCI number...

agent will ask information about last name, first name, date of birth, application received date, email id, you resident, birth place and so on..

Once you get your UCI you can ask for further information on your file or
call again and while going through above IVR options, while ask your UCI to enter, enter it and get the latest update if any...

Payment mode is DD. I have already requested in my earlier post to update it, whenever admins get some time they will update it.

Is UCI issued even for rejected Student, Visa, Work permit applications alsi??

Yes. There are cases, even on this thread, where a person has got UCI but the file was rejected for some reason. UCI is allotted by the system when the user details are entered into the system. This UCI is used by CIC themselves to access the client portal where all details are entered.

The reasons I can cite for such rejection for FSW, for example, could be;
- User details were entered into the system and UCI allotted as the file was completed but the job roles did not meet the eligibility criteria,
- Everything went through but CC was not charged because of a technical problem with the payment gateway.

For student visa,
- File was completed but the higher study opted was not linked to the previous graduation.

There are certain cases where UCI will not be allotted such as,
- Any of the bar code page from the Generic application form is missing.
- My student visa was rejected because I submitted TOEFL in stead of IELTS. I was not provided any UCI.

The above are the cases which have to come to my knowledge and as happened with me in the past. But these are just limited examples, there are many to it which consultants will thoroughly know.

To summarize the above, UCI is allotted as and when a user's details are entered in to the centralized computer system. The application, however, may be rejected at a later stage due to some other reason. This is how CIC keeps track of all the past and present applications of a user and knows when and why a user was rejected or accepted in the past.
