@ seniors,

I dont think that there is any such instruction to make spouse as applicant( in the the guide for filling family information )
In both the forms I kept myself as applicant and at the top of the form for my wife I wrote spouse's family info just to distinguish it from my family info , hope this will not considered as mistake as I submitted forms for both of us ...

Seniors any suggestions on this issue ???

Thank you very much for the reply. Does my wife need to fill out IMM5406 form? If yes, does she need to add her name as "Applicant" and my name under "spouse"?

Thanks again.

See, they have asked for "Applicants" and not "Principal Applicant" which is you. According to the instructions or how the form is designed it has to be like this:

Yours:
ABC - Applicant
XYZ - Spouse

Wife:
XYZ - Applicant
ABC - Spouse

Both of you are Applicants AND you are Principal applicant. There is a difference between both. As far mistake is concerned, I guess not fatal but might delay a bit.

yeah thats why on my wife's form I wrote spouse's form
actually form is not proper , just like in Background declaration form they have clearly
asked to tick "principal applicant " or "spouse " , I think I am fine with that :)

But thanks for reply and clarification Jigzyy

With this Applicant and spouse thing, You know Jigzy you're right. I just came to think of it when the question arise and reviewed the application I submitted. Unfortunately, I committed the same mistake and there's nothing I can do now. You have the same opinion with my husband when he's filling out his form but my opinion overrule. Tsk tsk tsk. :'(. Hope CIO officer will consider this small mistake.

javachip , this is a mistake we should not worry because there is no clarity from CIC side ( as per their guide) and infact they have done a little bit mistake in designing this form also

The form is designed to go with any application package, like study, visit, worker etc, that's why they haven't mentioned it like Principal Applicant & Accompanying dependents like they did on the Background Declaration.

It's a common mistake. I guess not sending at all is more fatal than sending but with this minor mistake. IF the rest of the form except this applicant & spouse thing is correct [like parents & siblings], I guess it'll pass through.
