Now, just for everybody's benefit, Whether copies should be Notarized or NOT:

Open "Document Checklist [IMM5612E]" -> Go to Page 2 -> 4th Line on that is pasted below !!

"Note that original or certified copies of documents or more information may be requested by an officer at a later date" !!!

Hope this clarifies

Could you please copy paste the lines which state all copies should be notarized.?
I agree that it is not mentioned in a clear-cut manner, instead it's logical. CIC should have made it more clear.

Here is a quote from the following URL:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp#eg74

"Certified true copies

To have a photocopy of a document certified, an authorized person must compare the original document to the photocopy and must print the following on the photocopy:

“I certify that this is a true copy of the original document”,
the name of the original document,
the date of the certification,
his or her name,
his or her official position or title, and
his or her signature.

Who can certify copies?
Persons authorized to certify copies include the following:

In Canada:

a commissioner of oaths
a notary public
a justice of the peace
Outside Canada:

a judge
a magistrate
a notary public
an officer of a court of justice
a commissioner authorized to administer oaths in the country in which the person is living"

What this means in a nutshell is that the copy must be "certified" and under "Who can certify copies?", you can see that it has to be from the judicial system. Now if you want to call it notarized or something else is up to you.

Thanks and regards...

Shehzad,

I cant be more clear on this, I have sent copies of everything. Last FSW 2011 they were asking for Originals for the reference letter. This year they changed it to copies.
IN my understanding of CIC for the last working pattern they never ask for Notarized stuffs. ( apart from the marriage certs which are basically in native languages)
But if its makes you happy and satisfied please go ahead and notarize it. Atleast you will have a proper sleep.
I am happy with the copies being sent with my application.
Its entirely upto you what gives you peace of mind and satisfaction. But please dont miss the 300 bus.

Hi prince_of_darkness,
I don't mean any offense to anyone either. We are here to help each other, not to find faults in each other's applications. I wish that everyone on this forum gets PR, but ultimately it's not me but CIC who decides.

What I'm saying is according to the best of my understanding, I may well be wrong.

The "Certified true copies" section is separate from the "Translation of documents" section. All translations must be notarized and all photocopies must be certified true copies.

And I quote everything from the following page:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp#eg74

The original of the translated document need not be sent but the photocopy which must be "certified". And same is the case with the photocopies of all other documents that they must be "certified".

Thanks and regards...

You must have all photocopies notarized. Please refer to the application completion guide "Guide 7000" at:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp#eg74

You can find it immediately above "Step 2: Complete the application".

It clearly says that ALL photocopies need to be notarized.

Thanks and regards...
shehzad865,
Refer to my last post, and whatever you are referring just tells .. "what are Certified True Copies" and "Who can Certify Copies" It does not state that you need to send certified copies with initial application.

@prince: oh is it?? Then that's ok. I guess notary isn't required for copies in english. Wish i knew this earlier. Spent shit amount of money on notary. Shehzad i think from what i understand now, notary is not mandatory.

I have been away from this forum for quite some time. See some amazing work from islandbabe, jigzzy and co. You guys should be rewarded soon. And new stats in the tracker. Of course these new stats give me the jitter as i have applied late. Again, applied with faith as islandbabe says. Good luck all.

P. S: pls update my location as calgary.

this lawyer is a stupid guy...

in your cover letter to CIC, just mention that reason you are not attaching PCC with the package (this is also not mandatory) ....
PCC can be submitted letter, it can take several days to obtain depending upon county to country and region to region.

It is not Mandatory that you send it with your initial application and also it does not require to give any explanation.

Just don't check the PCC column in the Document Checklist.

Hope this clarifies ....don't insist on PCC, its of no use if your file doesn't get opened, so rush application ASAP.

I probably won't have all of copies notarized and I'm with you on the logic that for this first step CIC won't DEMAND the notarized copies, I must say that shehzad has a good point and that in the Guide document, on link he sent, it really says that you DO have to have all copies notarized, and that can't be disputed. Personally I noticed that fact for the first time now, after he/she pointed to it.

I'm not saying it's REALLY needed or that you really needed it, but in current online guide it does say you do.
On the other hand - I know that in document checklist it doesn't mention notarized copies at all.

So who wants to be super safe - he'll notarize. Who's in a rush or don't want to pay for it - he won't and will probably get a way with it.

Hey prince_of_darkness,
I also wish that you not only get onto the 300 bus but also get PR. In fact after the quote from the Document Checklist given by Clickitt:

"Note that original or certified copies of documents or more information may be requested by an officer at a later date".

I'm getting inclined towards the idea that notarized copies may not be required. I had notarized copies firmly fixed in my mind because my uncle also did the same when he applied in 2008 and got PR in 2010.

In fact some of the things in the Document Checklist and Guide 7000 are totally contradictory. I don't remember those but I noticed a few while preparing my application.

Thanks and regards...

Hi all,
as far as my husband and I understood the documents that are NOT in English must be accompanied by an notarizet translation(affidavit) and also all the copies of documents must be notarized. Our application had:
-notarized copies of ALL documents in English (eg birth certificate, passport etc) with the caption from the notary (I certify that this is a true copy of the original doc X)
-notarized copies of all documents in our native language(meaning the translation, that had the caption of the translator with "I swear that the translation is a true bla bla" and the caption from the public notary stating that he legalizes the translation)
-original documents: PCC,ECA,IELTS,letters of reference
-all forms needed from the checklist

That's what we understood we should submit..
Best of luck to everyone!I bet that on June 4th we'll have updates ;D (it's a round number, exactly one month since the program started)
