So booking the QH from direct online or by call with the hotel is no longer an issue right with regards to the arrive can booking reference being different from the one provided by the 1-800 number and the one provided by the hotel. Also is it too early to reserve for April 14th now. Worried that the lesser priced hotels will be all booked up by then.

For individuals wanting to land in Toronto, the Holiday Inn at 970 Dixon Road, Rexdale, Toronto, Ontario M9W1J9 appears to make sense cost-wise. I called them just a moment ago, and the price per night for a family of five like mine is $139CAD, including shuttle service from the airport. Only breakfast meal plan, though. Three night is $417CAD with refundable option of not using the three days in case the test result came out earlier. I think this is a good deal.
They are even ready to book for me for late April booking(the 48 hr only booking not an ish here..lol), but I had to tell the individual that I called to make inquiries first.
I can't think that is the GAA rate. That must be the regular rate. The central booking line of the hotel does not sometimes know the GAA program. I talked to Holiday Inn yesterday and was given the rate of ~450 per night for adult + 1 kid and that is non-refundable, 3 meals etc.. In other words, what I got was the actual GAA rate.

The only breakfast meal plan sound like a regular hotel room booking. $139 for 5 people sounds too cheap even for a bad 1 star motel....

Yes, as far as I know.

In all this, govt. is stupid enough to not make some money for the administrative cost and has instead to opted to let the hotels steal for services they won't even provide for a lot of people (who will leave early from an early negative result).

LOL.., you may be right. I actually took time to talk to the individual, explaining the purpose of wanting to book the hotel. The response was the same. I think the only thing that made the difference in price is the meal plan. I'm of the opinion that the most important thing is to book with a GAA which can provide shuttle service to/from the airport, and a confirmation number one can show if it was required . One can always place an order for food within the hotel at a cheaper cost. As long as one does not leave the hotel room, I don't think government cares whether you eat or not,how many times you eat. etc.
Again, the individual that picked my call may not fully understand the difference between the regular rate and quarantine rate. You may be absolutely correct. I just fee that the quarantine service rate is overhyped. Basically, the hotel would always clean and disinfect the room on a normal day, get you a shuttle services part of the regular fee. The over bloated service in terms of three meal plan is just in the lunch and dinner, because a regular service rental mostly includes a breakfast ( coffee and snacks). This is just my opinion.

Be careful. A lot of hotels told travelers that it would be refundable if results came back early and now they aren't giving refunds.

Well, I wouldn't know the refund policy agreed upon by the two parties. If ,indeed, it was clearly spelt out in the refund policy that any unused day would be refunded, then so be it. The issue I suspect is some individuals might just ask if there was cancellation/refund policy without going into details. Though I have not made any booking, when I'm to make one, I would ask and emphasize very well before proceeding with the booking and request for a possible comment(to refund any early checkout day(s) ) on the receipt that would be issued. Of course, if I'm told there is no refund policy, there is nothing I can do. However, if a breach of agreement occurs after it was initially agreed, I would take a legal action. I understand some incoming students may see this action as being in the extreme.

Are you sure you can use your reservation confirmation number on the ArriveCan app? I am thinking the confirmation number for GAA bookings will be made available to govt so that it gets verified when you enter it on ArriveCan app. If this was the case, then any hotel confirmation number would not of use.

Honestly, I just called to make an inquiry. I have not made any booking and do not intend to do that not until after renting an apartment first in Windsor with a move in date of May 1st, and book my flight in that order. I would wait for another 45 days before making any move. A lot might have changed at that time; just may be.
So, I wouldn't know if the reservation confirmation number could be used in ArriveCan. people who have booked may be in the know.
I think as long as a hotel is classified GAA, and DIRECT booking is allowed, any confirmation number from that hotel would be acceptable. This might just be a loophole anyway. From what I can see so far, the only difference in terms of regular service and three-day quarantine stop is the three meal plan. Ordinarily, the hotel services of these hotels close to the airport include shuttle service, regular cleaning and disinfecting the room, and breakfast. The lunch and dinner made the difference.
