Just wondering. I will be qualified soon for Citizenship application. ZERO absences outside Canada and Continuous employment from 2 weeks after landing. I have time till June 19,2015 to lock myself in the old rules. I am in no rush to apply for Citizenship, but I want to make use of the best opportunity so that my application gets processed faster. What do you think would be the best date to apply, with regards to processing times?

You have no control regarding the process speed of your application... all depends of the agent who will work on your case and the local office.

There is absolutely no prove that the new rules will be enforced June... everything is just speculations.

The Minister was at my citizenship ceremony this week. He said the it will be implemented "next summer".

@ SinghLovCan, no one has control over processing times. The only thing you can do is apply when you are eligible and ensure you submit everything they ask for, so they don't have a reason to return your application (which causes delays). Goodluck!

OK can you please show me the link :)

The government still doesn't know but maybe Star has the crystal ball and they can see in the future.

Now seriously ...don't trust speculations... trust the official statements... The journalist can also wright whatever they like.

This article - http://www.thestar.com/news/immigration/2014/08/04/residents_urged_to_apply_for_canadian_citizenship_to_avoid_hurdles_on_horizon.html - doesn't specifically say when in June:

"In fact, some of the most controversial changes — requiring citizenship applicants to be present in Canada for four years out of six (rather than three years out of four), and raising the age of exemption from language and citizenship tests to 65, from 55 — won’t come into force until next June, immigration officials confirmed to the Star."

Exactly, There is no cut off date, because nobody knows when it will be.

Even the Minister is answering with seasons , like SenoritaBella mentioned... he doesn't even mention specific month.

The future is always impredictable simply because only God knows what will or will not happen by then. If you are eligible why not apply today or as soon as possible. Why waste time that you may regret later on. You said you re in no rush, are u sure this will still be case next few months? What if you get a very good job offer next few months but you need to be a citizen to get it ?

There should be nothing to regret , as these changes will worry people who are scammers and want to be citizens of convenience , the genuine PR who is living in Canada need not worry.

if you are in no rush to apply, that means you're not in a rush of getting citizenship, then why do you care if it's faster or not?

if you apply now and get a slow one let's say it'll take 1.5 years, it'll end up beginning of 2016. if you apply in June and get a fast one let's say a year, it'll be also beginning of 2016.

Next summer means any date from 21 June until 21 September.

I am sure that he didn't say at the very beginning of summer...

anyways they should say the real cut off date maybe this year or maybe next year, but it seems it will not be soon.

How well in advance are they going to announce the cut-off date?

This is the problem, because I don't think that there is a law which says how much they can procrastinate the notice in advance.

The minister still doesn't say anything about any cut off date and it might be so until the very last moment.

Do you think that the first few applications that are received under the new rule, will be processed instantly? My situation is such that if I dont apply this year, I still qualify next year.. so I am not worried about the long wait time.
