Based on the current criteria, I will be eligible to apply for the citizenship in September 1st 2015. When the new 4 outta 6 years residency clause gets implemented, I will be eligible to apply for the citizenship in Spetember 1st 2017. I have been in Canada for way too long, finished high school, university, and currently working. I am basically living the Canadian dream. Why would the new clause apply to people who are already couple of months away from applying to the Canadian citizenship? I am all for strengthening the citizenship act and cracking down on frauds, but why would people like myself and plenty of others be included in "strengthening the citizenship act"? Personally, I am already pledging the allegiance to the Canadian flag! Would our voice reach anyone in charge who can take a quick look at our individual cases?

Thank you and sorry for the crowded paragraphs, I am posting from my phone.

The new clause applies to everyone - including those who are a couple of months away from applying.

The rule will be applied based on when your citizenship application is received by CIC. This means that if your citizenship application is received before the new rules are in place - you will fall under the 3/4 year rule. If your application is received after the new rules are applied, you will fall under the 4/6 year rule. If the new rules coming into place this summer, then you will unfortunately not qualify to apply until September 2017.

Hi there, how come you have been in Canada for so many years but still not eligible to apply for citizenship?

According to "some" people here, the parliament does not give a damn about our lives.
So people like you and I will have to "obey" them blindly.

However,some things won't be forgotten.

That is very unfortunate :(

I became a PR in 2013. I graduated from University in 2011, got a job, and then applied for the PR.

I wish they would modify the clause to be less inclusive

They don't talk about the taxes you paid when you were non-PR

If they consider the time we spent there as non-PRs " never happened" then they should return the tax money they got from people

I think it would be fair if they start applying this Bill on June 2017. It means anyone who land after the Bill became a law will be under it not those who landed before this date. WE may have to write to the Governor , this may help.

I speculate there will be a lot of pissed off new citizens in 2018-19 who will vote against the conservatives ;D

And to mention the steep fee increase to date - who knows what it will be when the time comes that those eligible under the 4/6 rule apply for citizenship?
