From Plattsburgh to Montreal by private car - without PR

I will do my landing, but won't have my PR card while am in my visit to the U.S, a friend will pick me up from Plattsburgh NY airport, will I be able to cross the border in a private car with my proof of permanent residency papers from there?

I've heard some people saying that from Plattsburgh, you can only pass if you are U.S citizen through the nexus lane, is that correct?

You can cross into Canada from Plattsburgh with your COPR and passport if you don't have your PR card.

Don't go through the Nexus lane unless everyone in the car has a Nexus card.
