Congrats!... :D

So did you make arrangement for housing before going or you have relatives who took care?

Actually yes. We are staying with a family in Markham. We arranged it before leaving India.

Hi Madhumita,

I am also planning to fly from Kolkata in July, just have two questions -

1) Did you get any special format of vaccination record for your son admission to school or we can show the original one (I can see that for many vaccination doctor has not signed against it in my paper).
2) Are you staying in a guest house or hotel or you were able to get an apartment before leaving (pls post your experience on this part which will be very helpful for us).

Regards,
Sanjay

You will find the names of shots/vaccines your child needs in the information page which comes with the landing papers. Go to a pediatrician and get all those written in his letter head and ask him to put his stamp along with his signature.
We are staying in a large basement apartment in Markham.

How much is the rent of a base in Markham? How much is the security amount? How many people are allowed to stay, any restriction or a family can stay?

We are living in a furnished basement apartment which costs us $1100 per month. We will be moving to a one bedroom apartment on 1st June. The rent is $800 a month. We didn't have any problem renting a one bedroom for four of us.

I'm not after jobs right now. I'm undergoing some certificate course and training from some government agency to prepare myself for jobs in Canada. Canadian government highly recommends this and there's a good chance that one will get a fair job after finishing these courses. I contacted YMCA. There I got tested on English language and received a certificate. After that they recommended me my appropriate course. Currently I'm attending a network security/administration course which will continue for 8 weeks and then a certificate will be issued. After that they will assist me in job search. Canadian government has number of programs to help new immigrants every way. All we need to do is to contact any government sponsored or non-profit settlement agencies after coming here. We need to understand that it's new country, new culture and we will need to invest some time and money in the right way for settlement.
People are telling that the job market in Canada is opening up and there'll me lots of opportunities shortly.

How much fees are you paying for the 8-week course? Is it different from what you already know from India, any specialization course in networking?

What was your job profile in India and how much exp.? I too am interested in networking field and will be very grateful for your feedback....
