Hi All,

Hope all of you are doing fine. Landed in Toronto with my husband and two kids on 7th May 2010. Journey through Emirates. If any of you're taking this airline then be careful to get your passports stamped with entry visa in Dubai. They missed to stamp my one and half year old daughter's passport and we had to run around for the same before boarding the flight the next day. Our flight touched the Pearson Airport on time. It took us about one hour to get out after getting all formalities done due to long queue of new immigrants. Immigration officers were pretty friendly.
Useful informations:
1) Emirates provides strollers for babies inside the airport. Check with Emirates/airport staffs to get one if travelling with infants.
2) Check the weather of your destination before leaving. Usually next two days weather forecast will be available on the net. Pack clothes in the handbag accordingly.
3) Keep the address handy where you would like to have your PR card mailed to pass it to the immigration officer after landing. The PR card will be automatically mailed to that address. You won't need to go personally to apply for the same. Better not to store it in the cellular phone. We did the same and the phone got switched off due to zero battery. You can also get your PR card application done through a toll free number you'll find in the PR card application form. You'll need your landing paper to apply for the same through this service. The immigration officer will provide the PR application form to you.
4) Go to your nearest Service Canada center to apply for your SIN card. Please check http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/cgi-bin/hr-search.cgi?ln=eng to locate the nearest one and then call up TTC at 416-393-4636 for public transport route to your destination. You will need to carry your landing paper, passport+visa for this. You can even mail your application to Service Canada for the same but then you'll need to send your passport and landing paper along with it. Choice is your's. We went personally to the Scarborough center for the same.
5) We got our six and half year old son admitted to Wilclay Public School yesterday. Staffs are very friendly. My son started going to the school from today.

That's all for now. Will catch you later with more info.
Regards
Madhumita

Hi Madhumita,

I am also planning to fly from Kolkata in July, just have two questions -

1) Did you get any special format of vaccination record for your son admission to school or we can show the original one (I can see that for many vaccination doctor has not signed against it in my paper).
2) Are you staying in a guest house or hotel or you were able to get an apartment before leaving (pls post your experience on this part which will be very helpful for us).

Regards,
Sanjay
