Hi. I'm hoping someone can help clarify this for my friend. My friend is Ecuadorian, has a 5 year Visa that expires the same date as the passport. However, the passport is expiring in 2 months and it is believed that entry will be refused because there isn't 6 months left on the passport before it expired. Is this true?

Thanks for the quick reply but neither of those 2 links serve to answer my question. The issue is not to do with the visa or visa renewal. The issue is that both visa and passport expire in 2 months. Somewhere my friend has heard that because there is no 6 month buffer on their passport, re-entry is not possible for a short visit.

Visa expiration does not restrict your friend. Passport expiration does. If he/she can renew it before that, it won't be an issue. There are options to get the passport renewed, quicker.

Canada has no 6 month requirement.

Canada has no minimum requirement for passport. Your friend may still use it.
Alternatively, your friend can renew his passport and bring the old with the visa stamp on it.
