Hey everyone! My wife and I are about to dive into learning French to get into french category and we could really use your advice! For those of you who've been down this road, how long did it take you to reach CLB 5? Which can give us better idea, i know its depends on dedication and grasping ability but still curious to know.
We're excited but not entirely sure what to expect, so if you have any recommendations or tips to help us along the way, we'd love to hear them.
Thanks in Advance

Are you teaching yourself or taking intensive French courses?

I believe you need CLB 7 if you want to be selected under the French language draw.

Realistically most need over a year but can be a lot longer. Would start finding some French speaking friends and start consuming media in French to get the most exposure possible.

Isn't the French category CLB7? I recently had a look at it, and it nowhere said CLB5. I did CLB7 (B2+) - took me 7 months once I was actually able to focus on it. Overall took 2 years (I was busy building companies, work, etc so delayed because of that). I've another friend who did it within 9 months. One who took 1.5 years. Give or take ~1 year is a realistic timeline for anyone who's dedicated.

CLB5 was very easy tbh. I was there in month 5.

How much your tutor charge for classes and whats timing if someone living in ontario

Different tutors charge differently. Most of the ones that you would want to hire wouldn't necessarily be in Ontario. If you are learning French from a french tutor who just teaches french, it could take a lot more longer to reach CLB7 as their pathways aren't optimized for the test. Go with the ones that focus on TEF/TCF/etc. I recently met a french tutor who claimed she could teach students to reach CLB7, but was focused on arbitrary goals rather than the weakness of her students - that leads to nowhere.
