Hello everyone, I really need help regarding my work experience. I am a freelance photographer and makeup artist. I have 2 years experience as a photographer and been working as a makeup artist as well since few months. I can provide 8-9 reference letters stating my job details, my payment was made in cash so can ask clients to mention that in reference letters. Now I live in Saudi Arabia so we don't pay taxes here so is it possible to use my experience for applying for immigration.
I have Canadian equivalent MBA and good IELTS score.

Self-employment is always tricky for Express Entry purposes. I can't speak in an informed manner on the topic because I did not apply as self-employed, but there must be a way to do it, as the website guide detailing the documents needed for the application briefly alludes to self-employed individuals. Here are some links that might help but you may want to do your own research on www.canada.ca

if the applicant is self-employed, articles of incorporation or other evidence of business ownership, evidence of self-employment income and documentation from third-party individuals indicating the service provided along with payment details (self-declared main duties or affidavits are not acceptable proof of self-employed work experience).

thank you for replying back...

  • a reference or experience letter from the employer, which
    • should be an official document printed on company letterhead (must include the applicant’s name, the company’s contact information [address, telephone number and email address], and the name, title and signature of the immediate supervisor or personnel officer at the company),
    • should indicate all positions held while employed at the company and must include the following details: job title, duties and responsibilities, job status (if current job), dates worked for the company, number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits; and
  • if the applicant is self-employed, articles of incorporation or other evidence of business ownership, evidence of self-employment income and documentation from third-party individuals indicating the service provided along with payment details (self-declared main duties or affidavits are not acceptable proof of self-employed work experience).
in this second point it is not written to mention hours. its only written if self employed then you have to give proof of income and reference letters. So I can provide reference letter stating my income and that it was paid in cash. would that be ok?

If you're claiming points for full-time work experience then how would IRCC know that you were working 30+ hrs per week.

Not sure...have you tried searching this forum for threads specially about self-employed applications? I'm sure the topic has come up before.
