I think Canada will have to take a position on either go towards Common wealth country route or North American Union (US, Canada and Mexico). Looking at the whole geo-political landscape, culture etc. it is better-off with Americas then EU/Common wealth.tiarachel85 said:http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/free-movement-proposed-between-canada-u-k-australia-new-zealand-1.2998105

ha ha ha I hold my breath to your ...... thingMUFC said:Many Canadians would be happy if that happens. Unfortunately for now the Canadian passport allows free movement and jobs without visas and permits only in......... Canada.
That is because every other countries requires Canadian to have work/visa permits to work in their countries. So it makes sense to reciprocate the work visa requirements.MUFC said:That's the funny thing, Canadians actually don't have freedom of movement and freedom to work without visas and permits in none of the other top countries.
That is why I said there is freedom of movement when it comes to VISITING another country. Working/Studying is another matter. Again you like to cherry picking the term of "freedom of movement" to only applying to working/studying in another country without visas when it suits you.MUFC said:You are talking about visa free access mainly used for short term tourist visits.
Freedom of movement is when you pick up your luggage today and going to live and work in another country without any visas or work permits. There is no restrictions when we are talking about freedom of movement.
Only for Canadians that want to work/study in other countries that is not enough for them. This number of Canadians may be not fit your definition of "Many Canadians". I think a majority of Canadians are happy living in Canada and are also happy to have freedom of movement to VISIT other countries. Suit them just fine.MUFC said:Thank God that Canadians can at least Visit the other developed nations. But it seem that for many Canadians this is not enough.
Until Canadians get rid of their fear of "foreigners stealing their jobs" mentality, freedom of movement for work/study will be hard to accomplish.MUFC said:Of course that 99% of the Canadians prefer to have only short term tourist visits and the pleasure to know that they will need visas for something more. No freedom to work, live and study in another country is a perfect option.
But Hey, Canadians have the freedom to live work and study without any visa or work permit in Canada only which is perfect.
