Share ko lang, we landed in Edmonton, 6months survival, then moved to Calgary stayed for 2years/4months, survival pa din and now I moved to Fort Mcmurray for better prospects and opportunity... Para sa mga mg-mimigrate na nasa engineering field, best advice kopo is you better land here at Fort Mac coz andto talaga ang opportunity... sana nalaman ko ang lugar nato before kami ng-landing..anyways..advise ko lang po sa mga dadating na immigrants...Goodluck! :)

Ask ko lang po background nang Fort Mc like Housing, Education, Further studies or update of education.hope po mabiyan nyo po kami nang highlight..i also hope this is not too much.

Salamat po nang marami sir..salamat po talaga

Hello,

Just landed in Toronto last July but stayed only for one month then balik din dito sa Dubai. I plan to come back in Toronto maybe next year.

With regards to job opportunity hindi ko pa masyado na-aral ng mabuti during my short stay pero ang sure lang, mag-start muna tayo sa survival jobs. Hope to meet other fellow Kabayan there.

Keep this thread alive!

hi gywayne,

Just FYI, lahat ng engineering immigrants ay hindi na engineer dto sa Canada pgdating not unless ngpa-regulate kayo before mg-land. If you're landing in Alberta, try to read over this website http://www.apegga.org/ for information pano maging licensed engineer dto.

My husband is a civil engineer and I'm a computer engineer; 6months in edmonton and working as survival means doing service jobs (like cashier, nursing aid, call center agent) which I got stressed-out and decided to move in Calgary. Based in our experience, mas maganda pong manirahan sa Calgary compare to Edmonton; people are more friendly, so many immigrant agencies that are willing to help you, sa ngayon business hub na ang Calgary and most of the companies are putting their head offices into that place. When we moved there, within a month, my husband and I got a job, somewhat related to our field, until now, he's working as an Engineering technologist coz in-progress pa din ang pa-license nya for APEGGA (it will take time coz of the budget and study habit din nya); Ako I was able to work in IT companies and sila ang ngbayad ng pa-certified ko sa mga IT courses; Advise: don't go for schooling not unless its FREE coz once you landed, entitled tayong mga immigrants na mg-aral for free related sa profession natin; if u'r lucky to get a job na related sa field, the company will sponsor your schooling din..

Now, I decided to move to Fort Mcmurray coz I discovered na way more higher ang salary dto, I'd left my husband in Calgary coz we dont want to take risk again na sabay mg-apply sa bagong lugar without knowing what will happen. I'd met so many immigrants here especially filipino engineers, they left their families sa place na ng-land sila; Toronto; Vancouver; Edmonton; Calgary then ng-wowork sila here in Fort Mac..

Magandang tumira sa mga big cities coz madaming options for education, housing and recreations but If you'll gonna think about financial stability in Canada, para sakin; Fort Mac is the right place if you have the right qualifications though; mataas ang cost of living coz mataas ang sahod; in Calgary average salary ng mga engineers na makukuha ay nglalaro ng 65K/ year; in Fort Mac, you can get an average salary of 180K or even above in a year... if you want to check the actual housing price dto, visit the site : http://fortmcmurray.kijiji.ca/ then just do the comparison...

If your husband is an engineer; Fort Mac is the place; this is the capital of oil sand in Canada; if Accounting ka, try to apply muna sa first city na you landed; if you can't get a job in a month of job searching;then I would grab the opportunity of free education para sa mga new landed immigrants.. ;)

When we landed in Edmonton and living as survival; gusto ko na din bumalik sa Dubai because of the stress sa mga pangyayari ;D but I've changed my mind, pinilit ko na lang na tanggapin ang madugong pakikibaka sa Canada para mabuhay.. ;D... Yun lang ang kailangan natin mga kabayan, mahirap talaga sa simula, but if you know you have qualifications and lakas ng loob makipagsabayan sa kanila, for sure, you can do it as well!

PAra sa akin, I will go to Calgary.... sa experience ko lang kse, I really dont like Edmonton, madumi ang city, madaming flip na local indians and hindi ganon ka-friendly ang mga pinoys.... (Pasensya napo coz I'm a great observer talaga so I'm just sharing kung ano ang na-experienced ko)... Mas madaming job opportunities in Calgary. If you have the money, why do you need the help of a friend or relatives? So many immigrant agencies na pde mo i-call pgdating nyo dto or kahit before kayo mg-land.... The only help that we asked from my relatives in Edmonton is to pick-up us at the airport and staying in their house for 2 weeks while searching for our own apartment; but if kung pde lang i-rewind; I would rather do eveything alone; checking in a hotel once first landed coz it really doesnt take time to search for an apartment talaga.....well its totally depends on you guys..... Goodluck! ;)

you can start from here.. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/ goodluck! ;)

Thanks po sa reply:) Actually, medyo nalilito p ako though may idea nko how to start.

I believe under FSW ang choice ko. Do you think this is the best time na magapply for FSW though may limit sila until april next year? or may ibang options pa po? Magkano po kaya ang estimate n magagastos ko with my wife and 2 kids?

advice from a colleague....

What would be the advantage and disadvantage po sa calgary aside sa namention nyo na d masyadong friendly ang edmonton, marumi, education opprotunity..

Salamat po nang marami..
