Former Landed Immigrant wants to move back to Canada

I was a Landed Immigrant in Canada and left Canada to come back to the USA for higher education and to work. My son lives in Canada and now has a family and I would love to eventually move back within a couple of years to be around them. I own property there and want to prepare it for selling as well since my Canadian husband passed two years ago. I still have a 'recognized' SIN number! Do I have to go through all the hoops to move back??

Your PR status is in serious danger of being revoked due to not meeting the residency obligation requirements of 730 days within the past five years. You should study the advice on the forum to see how you can reduce the risk. This really is the key to getting back to Canada. If she delays her return she will fall behind on days. At the moment, she probably has enough days of "accompanying" plus the few days of actual presence to meet the residency obligation requirements. But, as time goes by, the situation will become more critical.

Yes that is true...but for PR it is the last five years...so there are three years time spent with a citizen abroad

You should have some tax documents etc. sent to both you and husband at the same address and maybe the husbands will or insurance policies showing you have inherited so that you were not separated or divorced when he died.

You need a mix of 730 days either in Canada or accompanying a Canadian citizen husband outside Canada in the past 5 years. If you leave your return too long, you will at some point not meet these requirements anymore because your days spent in Canada or accompanying your husband in 2008 are now moving outside that 5 year window. If you are serious about returning to Canada, you should do it sooner rather than later.
