I doubt PR will be revoked or banned because criminal offenses are more in that line. Just a marital status update failure wont be that harmful. Will talk to an attorney today.
You are wrong. You lied at immigration. That is a serious criminal offence.

When you landed, you were asked your marital status. The form said single. If you said single, you knew you were lying. If you said married, the officer would have asked why the form was wrong. So you didn't tell the truth.

Actually, the officer would have refused to land him. He would have been admitted as a visitor and told to contact the visa office.

Well I didn't go into the consequences - the point is there's no way that CBSA would have not noticed if he had honestly answered the questions, and gave a different answer to what was on the COPR he was giving them.

Got it! Thanks. I think we will go the express entry route
What did you finally do? I am in the similar situation, please help.
My husband forgot to update his marital status before landing and I have received a letter to justify that why my sponsor is single and sponsoring me? What should I do?

Your husband `forgot' to update his marital status before becoming a PR?

AFAIK, he can never sponsor you because of his error. You may have to find your own way to become a PR of Canada.

To add to the angst...his own PR could be in jeopardy for misrepresentation if IRCC continues to check his story and finds that he was in fact married, when he landed as being single.

The sponsorship application is going to be refused. Your husband can never sponsor you since he failed to declare you and add you to his application before landing.

The only option is for you to qualify for PR on your own through an economic immigration stream like Express Entry.

Hi, Thanks for your responses.
Apart from my spousal application which I understand will be rejected, I recently got the approval for my open work permit which I applied after receiving the AOR for my spousal application (A secure document has been mailed to my address and I am yet to receive it). Does that work permit also get affected due to this rejection?

Normally the OWP would stay valid. I suppose it's possible IRCC could cancel it but I would assume it will remain valid unless you receive a communication from IRCC otherwise.
