But an order is exactly what they did NOT get. The Labour Board did not order them to re-enter negotiations, unfortunately. Just "encouraged" the government to sit down again at the table.

The only bright light that I can see is that the government looks even sillier and more intransigent than ever and perhaps there will be some repercussions within diplomatic circles about it. Who knows? The Mexican ambassador is reported (in Canadian newspapers) to be very angry with Canada about the visa requirements in general for Mexicans and is promising that there will be consequences.

There is always light at the end of the tunnel... 10 days later strike is over

Now that you got the money you want please get the f-u-c-k-i-n-g job done and reduce de processing time in every VO. No excuse now you are rich!!!

Out of curiosity: do those PAFSO officers working in "choice" destinations (like Switzerland or France) get paid as much as those working in more dangerous and/or war torn destinations??? Are these appointments determined by seniority or familiarity with each country's given language/culture? There must be more compensation for those potentially risking their lives in the most dangerous destinations, right?

They got paid well even before the strike, but good on PAFSO for not allowing the cons to break the union.
The question remains: How long will it take the officers to return to their posts? ??? Surely, many of them went back to Canada for the duration of the strike.

They have this coming weekend to hike back to Manila and be at the CEM office on Monday :) ;)

The average salary for immigration officer is precisely at 51174$ CAD.

So when i hear nonsense about people being rich, I just smile. I wonder if people, who are rich would fight over nickel n dimes.

$51,000 is still five times what the average US worker makes, so you wonder why they complained. I'm sure people can live quite well on $51,000 a year.

no way. average income in US is something around 35k. I am actually surprised immigration officers are not paid that well..

That number is not for foreign immigration officers/workers, I'm assuming you got that from wow jobs as that's the number they come up with. It's not really an accurate site and those are referring to jobs within Canada which is not the group on strike and not the comparable group to PAFSO

This is from the pafso site, salaries below not including benefits.

FS-01 Desk officer: 62,793
FS 02- Senior Desk Officer 82,630
FS 03 - Dep Diretor/Legal Officer 104,026
FS 04: Senior Officer 112,512

The reason they were on strike is because a person doing the same/similiar job in Canada is making:
FS01 85,381
FS02 118,995
FS03 131,548
FS04 149,450

Are you saying that the average US worker makes $10,000/year??

According to the NY Times the median household income is $51,000 (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/22/us/politics/us-median-income-rises-but-is-still-6-below-its-2007-peak.html?_r=0). If you are right that would mean five income earners per household.
