Hello,
There is one mistake which I did in my foreign work experience when i filled my EE application. I have been working for the same company from 2004 with different positions. When I entered my details I didn’t segregate them and just put the latest position I held (e.g. 2004-Present working as a Lead). I have a experience letter from the company where they’ve mentioned the different positions that I’ve held.

I have received an ITA but tensed if this would create any problems as I didn’t segregate my positions held. Any help or suggestions welcome, please.

Just wanted to make sure I'm understanding this, but is it correct that you have received an ITA but not yet submitted your EE application? It sounds like you made the mistake while creating your EE profile, but wanted to confirm.

If that is the case, make sure that @legalfalcon confirms this, but I don't think this is a problem as long as:
  1. After splitting out your experience by position and NOC code, everything you claimed when you created your EE profile still applies and your total number of CRS points is the same
  2. If you are FSW (which it sounds like you are), you still hit the 67 points threshold in the selection factor scale for FSW
Of course, you must submit the work experience in a way that matches the experience letter when you fill out your actual EE application or you will have problems.

@guelphite : Thank you for your reply. It was my mistake that I didn’t segregate my positions held when I created my EE application. Now that I have received an ITA (under CEC category) i cant make any changes to the EE application. All I can do is make changes to the post-ITA application. My CRS score wont change if i make this change.

You can split your work experience by designations held or have the entire work experience with the company as one experience, it would not matter.

You can also split them post ITA. All that matters is your work reference letter be as per IRCC requirements.

Thank you @legalfalcon. I won’t create any problems if I kept them as one even if my reference letter states that, right?
It will not be an issue.Just make sure that your work experience letter complies with the following:

a reference or experience letter from the employer, which
  • should be an official document printed on company letterhead (must include the applicant’s name, the company’s contact information [address, telephone number and email address], and the name, title and signature of the immediate supervisor or personnel officer at the company),
  • should indicate all positions held while employed at the company and must include the following details: job title, duties and responsibilities, job status (if current job), dates worked for the company, number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits

Hi, you are the expert here, just trying to clarify so I don't give bad information on other questions.

I thought that for all claimed years of work experience, the job description in the employer letter must match the NOC code that you claimed in the EE application. So say in your employer letter two position are listed, one corresponds to 2 years at NOC 2173 and the other is 1 year at 2171, but in your EE application you say 3 years at NOC 2173. Is this an issue?

There are two things you need to understand.

1. MEC - Minimum Eligibility Requirement
2. CRS points

MEC: For FSW and PNP,

Minimum work experience requirement
The applicant must have accumulated at least one year of continuous full-time (or the equivalent in part-time) paid work experience in the occupation identified in their application for permanent residence as their primary occupation. In calculating this period of work experience, the occupation must be listed in skill type 0 (Managerial occupations), skill level A (Professional occupations) or skill level B (Technical occupations and skilled trades) of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2016 [R75(2)(a)].
The applicant’s skilled work experience must also
  • have occurred within the ten years preceding the date of their application for permanent residence; and
  • not be in an occupation that has been designated as a restricted occupation.
Note: At the time of publication, no occupations were designated as restricted.
In addition, during that period of employment, the applicant must have
  • performed the actions described in the lead statement for the occupation as set out in the occupational description of the NOC [R75(2)(b)]; and
  • performed a substantial number of the main duties, including all of the essential duties, of the occupation as set out in the occupational description of the NOC [R75(2)(c)].
Note: The applicant does not need to demonstrate that they meet the “employment requirements” listed in the NOC occupational description.

See https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/permanent-residence/economic-classes/federal-skilled-workers/assessing-applications-against-minimum-requirements.html
What the above means is that the NOC code an applicant selects they have to show 1 year of work experience in that NOC. This is also called primary NOC as listed in the application.

For other work experience, you can mix and match different NOCs to claim CRS

CRS:
When you fill in your application post ITA, the upload files are generated based on the work reference you claimed in the application.

Eg: The applicant worked for Canada Inc. from 2011-2020. During gush time frame the applicants designations and NOCs were:

1. 2011-2015: Executive NOC 1234
2. 2015-2017: Asst. Manager, NOC 5678
3. 2017-2020: Manager, NOC 9012

When filling up the application the applicant declares his primary NOC as 9012. The applicant will have to show that he / she has worked for at least 1 year in 9012. To claim points for 3+ years of foreign work experience the applicant can claim points for NOC 1234 and NOC 5678.

However, when they fill in the application, they can either fill the work experience as:

2011-2020 - Canada Inc.

Or

1. 2011-2015: Executive NOC 1234
2. 2015-2017: Asst. Manager, NOC 5678
3. 2017-2020: Manager, NOC 9012

If they fill it as just one, then they will have only one upload window, and can submit a work reference letter that has all the designations listed.

If they use the latter format, then they will have three upload windows, one for each format. They can the upload separate work reference letters for each designation or just one and upload it in all thee that is a combined work reference letter. /

Whether the letter is combined or segregated for different designations, it has to meet the IRCC pre-requisite:

a reference or experience letter from the employer, which
  • should be an official document printed on company letterhead (must include the applicant’s name, the company’s contact information [address, telephone number and email address], and the name, title and signature of the immediate supervisor or personnel officer at the company),
  • should indicate all positions held while employed at the company and must include the following details: job title, duties and responsibilities, job status (if current job), dates worked for the company, number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits

Hope this clarifies any doubt you may have.

Thank you @legalfalcon. That was one big burden i was carrying. I was not expecting my company to give me a letter, but they were kind enough when i told them its for my PR application and they made sure it complies with the IRCC format. They mentioned all my positions held for the duration, with duties, pay, vacations etc.
