CBC (a leading news channel in Canada), wants to hear personal stories about people affected by the strike. If we want this strike to end we need to make noise and push the people involved to end the strike.

Please email laura.payton@cbc.ca
She is doing a personal interest story on people affected by the strike, and since mostly tourist visa and students visas are getting most of the coverage, it's time we tell our stories of waiting for our spouse.

The more stories she has the better she can make a good impact.

Email her your story of now adding 2 more + months to an already lengthy process.

We can't sit idle and complain about it anymore. We need to take action.

Also here is a list of email addresses.
Flood their emails, make them take action.

Hey guys what do you think about this.

Hello Laura,

I am one of the 100’s who are effected by the strike PAFSO is having now. I have applied for my wife as a spouse category in Jan 2013 and till now I have no update from NDVO (New Delhi Visa Office). They do however request my wife’s passport earlier in March 2013 like all the other people have been requested as well. My wife checks her ECAS website everyday for updates and to our disappointment we have no update given by the office for the visa. We have been for 7 months now for our visa and it looks like we are not gaining anything that will help us in our relationship. Many people like me are having the same impact on there visa as nothing is being done.

Some of my questions to the Canadian immigration minister and the Prime minister is when we sponsored our spouse in advanced and paid the full amount of fees like ALL the people who are sponsoring there spouse.

1. Why do we have to be in the waiting list for so long?
2. Why do we have to we have to take the heat of the strike?
3. What is that is missing from our spouse file that we are not able to get the visa?
4. What should we do to get the visa?
5. Are we going to get any compensation for being neglected by the visa office just because we are in the Family category?
6. When is the strike going to end and when do we expect the visas to be available?
7. When will the backlogs going to be cleared?
8. Why are visitors, tourist and international students getting there visa’s but not family class spouse visa?

When I think about Canada being a multinational free country I believe in it but, when we get in this situation when everybody in the Canada gets there visa where it belongs to any category except for family class spouses what are we can do. We as Canadian’s cannot initiate a simple talk to even end the strike which is affecting everybody. Furthermore, we family class sponsors and spouse are told not to contact any office regardless of any emergency we have. We have our family waiting for us and we cannot do anything in our power to even tell them we are sorry.

All the time we are just waiting for the day when we our spouse are going to get the visa and we are united with our love ones makes us so frustrated and depressed that we end up something stupid in our life that effects the whole world. The fact that we are having so many tornados and bad weather in Canada is not something to be ignored off because this is not coming from Mother Nature but coming from our heart. The prayers that we do no matter what culture comes from our heart and there is some one who is listening to it, that some one has promised that the prayers will be answered an when some ones heart is broken or feelings get shattered then the outcome is what we see as destruction and act of GOD. We humbly request to both PAFSO and the Government to come up with a solution to end the strike and get the backlog cleared of the visas. Please think about it as if where you who is having this difficult time and what will you think about it.

I've informed the media and written politicians and continue to do so, even had my name written in two national newspapers! In all seriousness, I doubt my efforts may have any effect but there is something therapeutic about spreading the message that this isn't all about tourist and student revenue and that this also involves Canadian families who are caught up in the turmoil. I figure that if every Canadian family being held hostage by this strike message writes the PM or writes a letter published in mainstream media, that this government will be shamed into giving negotiation a second thought. It's really all we can do.
It's pretty typical a story, but perhaps this will inspire others to contact politicans and media. Here's what I wrote:

Dear (insert politician),

Most people only think that the strike is throwing the lives of foreigners in turmoil, but in fact it is affecting many Canadian families, such as mine.
I am a Canadian who has been living in xxxx for 4 years. In that time, I met the love of my life, got married and share a lovely daughter. Of course, I immediately contacted the Canadian embassy to get our child a passport and then applied to sponsor my wife so that my family can one day live in Canada and that my child can enjoy the same kind of childhood that I enjoyed. We applied almost nine months ago. Everything was running smoothly. We got to the processing stage where my wife was asked to hand over her passport, which she promptly did. Five months later, that passport is still in the office. No one i answering our phone calls or updating us. To make matters worse, my xxxx visa is expiring soon and a 5th straight renewal seems unlikely. Eventually, I will have to board a plane with our child and say goodbye, while my child's mother languishes here. Our family is strong enough to weather this but it is something I won't forget upon returning to the voting booth.

Thanks,

Good luck to everyone! :)

I've been flooded with emails though and I can't even keep up with reading them all, so please don't worry about responding if you haven't already. I have more than enough for any story we produce.

Hello Laura and thank you (and you too skas13) for bringing attention to this matter and showing the toll this is taking on family reunification. If you and/or any of your colleagues really want a story - the larger context is Canada's immigration system in it's entirety. It is frightening actually.

Read some more of the posts on this forum. Families cannot visit or be together for births, deaths, illnesses or other emergencies while their applications are being "processed"; there is little to no transparency, consistency or rigor in how the applications get processed; applicants and spouses are left in the dark about progress on our files; people are waiting longer than ever before and being treated like criminals, the list is long and painful.

Now would be a good time to shed some light on the current mess for the new immigration minister to really answer to Canadian taxpayers and families. Any help is appreciated.
