here's good info from http://www.saferoads.com/pdf/ART-QandA.pdf
I am a new resident to Alberta, having moved from a country that does not have a
reciprocal licensing agreement. What do I need to do to get my Alberta Class 5 licence?

New drivers licensed in Alberta on or after May 20, 2005 that move from countries with no reciprocal licensing agreement must complete an Advanced Road Test to receive a full Class 5 licence.
Drivers from non-reciprocal countries with two or more years of driving experience who present a valid driver’s licence will need to complete knowledge, visions, and road tests.
They must produce proof of two or more years of driving experience in the form of an out-of-country driver’s licence or a confirmation letter from the country where they were licensed. If the driver chooses to take a Basic Road Test, the client becomes a GDL probationary driver but remains eligible to take the Advanced Road Test at any time.
Drivers with less than two years of driving experience must enter the GDL program. They will complete a knowledge, vision, and road test. These drivers will become Class 5 GDL probationary drivers and will be subject to all GDL conditions. They become eligible for a Class 5 Advanced Road Test and full licence after obtaining 2 or more years driving experience. Verified proof of driving experience from the country where they were licensed is included.

dito naman makikita kung anu-ano kelangan i-submit to get the GDL exemption:

Philippines

For clients submitting licensing documentation from the Philippines

*Please note that changes to this guideline have been made based on
specific requests from the Philippine Consulate in Calgary.

Step 1.

All drivers’ licenses from the Philippines presented for GDL Exemption MUST be
accompanied by:

.
An original Authentication Certificate bearing the red ribbon and gold seal from the
Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila;
.
An original driver’s license certification letter from the Land Transportation Office
(LTO) from the Department of Transportation & Communications at East Avenue,
Quezon City, Philippines. NO OTHER LTO LETTER WILL BE ACCEPTED;
.
The original blue official receipt of payment must be included, as noted on the
bottom of the certification letter;
.
If there is NO Quezon City LTO Certification Letter and receipt presented, the
registry agent will advise the client to obtain this documentation PRIOR TO surrendering
their original Philippines drivers’ license for GDL Exemption;
The registry agent is requested to also ensure that the LTO letter presented has either a
valid ‘date first licensed’ or ‘date of issue’ reflected prior to submission to SIU. This
information is required to give the client a proper ‘date first licensed’.

Step 2.

The registry agent will submit the following to their respective SIU office for approval:

.
The client’s original Philippines driver’s license;
.
The client’s original Authentication Certificate;
.
The client’s original Certification Letter;
.
The client’s original blue official receipt;
.
The client’s GDL Exemption form.

yan din kasi plano ko kaya i had to research na. hassle lang kasi yung pagpa-red ribbon ng documents. hehe
saka wala pang funds, naubos nung kasal :P

you can still aim for the class 5 probi status. you can drive a car, hindi ka lang pwede mag-accompany sa nagda-drive na learners (class 7) pa lang ang papel ;)
plus, while not applying for the gdl class 5 i think you can still use our pinas driver's license (plus international driver's license) for 1 year of driving in canada. you may want to check this link:
http://www.servicealberta.ca/1741.cfm
Other Temporary Workers and Foreign Students
If you are from outside Canada working in Alberta temporarily under a valid work visa or you are studying in Alberta at an accreditided institution, you may drive for up to 1 year with your home jurisdiction licence and International Drivers Permit or until your home jurisdiction licence expires, whichever comes first. If you leave Canada and return, your 1 year term starts over. Please ensure that your home jurisdiction driver's licence and your International Drivers Permit are valid for the duration of your stay if you intend to drive. If your work or student visa is for a term longer than 1 year and you will not be leaving Canada during this time, you may be eligible for an Alberta licence. Please see the section titled New Canadian and Alberta Residents.

ah ok... thanks for the info kenj! :)

Wow Kenj and Oxie18, thank you for this info regarding international driver's license kasi isa yansa mga kukunin at aasikasuhin kapag natuloy at na-grant ang visa namin ng anak ko. Five years na ko nag drive at non professional ang license ko. Salamat talaga sa information. Galing talaga ng forum na ito dami ko nalalaman at natutunan.

this may not be the best answer pero your best bet in basing your timeline would be the latest date that the medical results have been forwarded, which is Oct.24. parang may naaalala kasi ako na similar case sa iyo from the previous posts. mga sis, pa-verify naman po :)

question ko naman po sa inyong mga palipad or nakarating na sa canada: nung bumili kayo ng tickets, roundtrip or one-way po ba ang kinuha nyo?
i know na one week pa lang since natanggap yung application ko, pero it doesn't hurt to plan early :) saka para ma-monitor ko na rin ang trend ng ticket prices habang papalapit ang expected departure date ko :P

Thanks sa input, Kenj!

@ manellie, Hi! keep your faith on Him, I'm sure darating na rin yang visa nyo. Nothing is impossible to Him, everything has a reason and purpose. All of us naman ay walang masamang intensyon kundi ang mabuo lang ang pamilya natin, so I believed that God will allow us to be reunited with our love ones. Keep on praying, hold on sis.
