Hello everybody,

I am planning to do the landing and return back to my country then go to Canada after 3 years to maintain the residency obligation;

I have some questions:
1- Do I need to open a bank account?
2- Can I apply for health insurance when I land?
3- Do I have to file a tax for the period I was outside Canada?
4- How GST/HST will help me?

Thanks in advance.

1. You will not need a bank account if you just plan to land and go back.

2. If you land in a province that has health insurance from day one, you can apply for health insurance as soon as you have something to prove your address in Canada, such as a utility bill or bank statement but if you are going straight back to your country, there is no point in applying for health insurance when you first land. You can do it when you come back.

3. You do not have to file taxes for that period as you are not yet living in Canada.

4. You can apply for GST credits when you start filing your taxes. They are based on your income and paid to you every 3 months. It is not really a huge amount of money.

Thanks a lot Leon for your answers, please confirm that what I need to do is only:

1- Recieving PR cards.
2- Getting SIN cards (Kids under 18 don't need SIN cards?)

Then I will be when I go again to Canada.

1. You can provide the postal address of your friend/relatives in Canada to CIC, and then have your friend/relatives to send the PR card to you.

2. You don't need apply the SIN now. You can get it later.
